Note

My nascent elite trail-o career has been nipped in the bud as I was down in 98th today. Managed to get 32/35 correct, but too slow compared to the others. Still, was fun and looking forward to Lockdown-O next weekend!

Note

Did Day 1 of the virtual Temp-O in Cádiz, Spain.

Very slick setup using a personalised Google Form. They used the O map of the city and then StreetView images with controls photoshopped on, which worked very well. Live results during the day and final ones right after closing time.

Ended up 59th out of almost 1,400 competitors (!) so maybe I have a second career waiting for me in Trail-O.

Hard work, but good hard work. Perfect conditions for running at 14C, little wind and the day after a good slug of rain, so the ground was nice and soft.

Terrain loop, with Abi. Just wonderful in the sunshine and I felt “good tired” from yesterday.

Norbiton Street-O from last year, using the MapRunF App.

My route was terrible but the App works well. Basically records your GPS as you run and ‘punches’ the control if you get close enough (and gives you audible feedback as it does.) Then gives you an automatic result at the end.

One of our club members has found a way to create these very quickly so hopefully we can put 10 of the previous races on by the weekend!

Lockdown Orienteering, Day 4.

Really getting into this now so shame it’s finished.
Trail-O was better than expected, although tactically answering wrongly but quickly may have been more sensible.
CF was great fun with the labyrinth. A few mistakes from being too cocky but otherwise fine, though still near the bottom of the results list. How people can do it in half my time is slightly beyond me.

Overall, an excellent offering so well done Chris & team.

Collecting choc-o controls with Abi. Seemed a success.

There are few things quite like an O kite appearing before you in the sunshine...
