“The hard way to get up a mountain” - from the bottom to the top of Hartkaiser cable car in Austria (which I then used to get back down).

It’s always tricky to plan a route off a hiking map because inevitably it’s a lot further than it looks. True again in this case especially as one path had disappeared, leading to a search and then a sizeable detour. I did get slightly concerned when at the top of the first hill the hiking sign said “Hartkaiser 3 1/2 hours”, but it ended up only slightly further than I thought.

The drizzle at the bottom and 5cm of snow at the top didn’t get in the way too much, and I was prepared for it kit-wise (particularly starting to love the neoprene socks.)

While the speed was lowish, I died less than expected at the end. And 1,202m of climb in one run may be the record - so overall very pleased that I can do, and actually do do, crazy shit like this.

Around Oxshott woods.

Work meeting overran so only started running 15 minutes after sunset...unsurprisingly, the old rule of “30 mins after sunset in the forest, 45 mins in the open” still applies so it got very dark very quickly. Wimped out of the last loop but still better than nothing.
