“The hard way to get up a mountain” - from the bottom to the top of Hartkaiser cable car in Austria (which I then used to get back down).
It’s always tricky to plan a route off a hiking map because inevitably it’s a lot further than it looks. True again in this case especially as one path had disappeared, leading to a search and then a sizeable detour. I did get slightly concerned when at the top of the first hill the hiking sign said “Hartkaiser 3 1/2 hours”, but it ended up only slightly further than I thought.
The drizzle at the bottom and 5cm of snow at the top didn’t get in the way too much, and I was prepared for it kit-wise (particularly starting to love the neoprene socks.)
While the speed was lowish, I died less than expected at the end. And 1,202m of climb in one run may be the record - so overall very pleased that I can do, and actually do do, crazy shit like this.
