Family holiday in Austria, usual loop around Going.

Have had a cough all week but decided to go for it and see whether I’d survive - worked out reasonably well although pretty tough on the long climbs in the middle.

For extra fun, a local farmer had fenced off a bit of field right across the track where the route goes, and put a load of cows into it. As we all know, cows are VICIOUS KILLING MACHINES so I tiptoed through looking at them menacingly. Pleased to have survived to tell the tale.

Wimbledon, with Abi.

Calf was ok-ish but had a plethora of other aches (both achilles, lower back and shoulder) that really need sorting. Type 2 fun.

Calf went after 10 minutes or so but was “achy” rather than “painful” so I’ll take that.

Shortened easy run as my calf went near the end. I did have it coming as I’ve put it through a load of testing runs with zero TLC, so serves me right.

On previous experience it should be ok in a week or so.

Wimbledon, with Abi.

Given it was 24h after another 90’ run, felt pretty decent for the first half (although felt faster than it actually was.)

Then second half was tough but hung in there for a slowish but ok time.

Some GPS issues today as my watch recorded 300m too short and Abi’s 1.2k too short.

On a quick trip to Vienna for my 25 year school reunion (gulp.)

As I stayed in our old flat next to the Vienna hills (Wienerwald) I couldn’t resist reprising one of my old favourite runs despite my body really not feeling up to it.

Unfortunately the whole thing starts with 15 minutes straight up a pretty steep hill, which was a little challenging. But settled into it after that and was probably only 5 minutes or so slower than as an 18 year old.

Pleased that even after so long I remembered the way, and the views are still lovely.
