Running 10:00 [2] 1.5 km (6:40 / km)

To the start

Orienteering 1:09:27 [3] 9.5 km (7:19 / km) +180m 6:41 / km

Local race, Gorges de Franchard. A dependably nice area, not too overgrown so rather pleasant to run through. The course was a bit easy which meant I stayed on the tracks for most of the time, but at least it was a steady run workout, rather than stop and go.

Winner 61, 4th place. Best I could do given current level of fitness, just one silly 1min mistake at the first control, otherwise nothing more than 10sec hesitations here and there. Enjoyable!

Running 54:00 [2] 11.0 km (4:55 / km)

Around Jardin du Luxembourg. Another one of these tired Saturday morning runs, but at least I got out there

Mountain Bike 1:00:00 [3]

Biking around Berlin. It wasn't on a mountain bike, more on a tattered old thing, and we weren't going very fast. But it was about 3 hours altogether on the bike, and I did feel my muscles afterwards so I figured there must have been some training effect

Running 33:00 [4] 7.0 km (4:43 / km)

Quick run to Teufelsberg in Berlin after the bike. We were running late for the plane back to Paris

Running 41:34 [3] 9.5 km (4:23 / km)

In Berlin, running around Lietzensee lake in the quasi-dark. Nice though.

Running 42:59 [3] 9.5 km (4:31 / km)

Short run home, tired

Orienteering 1:12:04 [4] 9.5 km (7:35 / km) +50m 7:23 / km

Orienteering race, St. Germain.

A crap forest, lots of green and especially nasty brambles plus a 5 year old, not very good map. Plus a control totally in the wrong place.

Lost 10 minutes altogether, but it was quite fun as there was a fair bit of path running

Came 4th, 4 minutes down

Orienteering 1:18:45 [4] 8.5 km (9:16 / km) +300m 7:53 / km

Orienteering Race, Barbizon.

Very different terrain to St Germain, hilly this time and lots of rock and fern. Impossible to run in places. A fun race even though the course could have been more technical. Got really tired towards the end and lost quite a bit of time on path running sections, but thankfully only about 5 minutes in total loss technically

3rd place, 4 minutes down

Orienteering 22:30 [4] 3.6 km (6:15 / km) +20m 6:05 / km

Orienteering Race (sprint), Bois le Roi

Very easy technically (open parkland mostly), so no mistakes but just totally tired, especially on second half (lost 8 seconds on Abi on first half, 2 minutes on second half)

about 15th place or so, 4 minutes down

Note

So it happened that there were 3 races on around Paris on the same day, and I decided to do all of them - the longest course each time of course.

It was a bit tight timewise between the first and second one as they were an hour apart and starts were 9:30-12:00 each time, but I sneaked in just before the end and started a little after 12. The third one was easy, it was on all day.

A fun experience even though doing a sprint race last is not a brilliant idea, because I didn't feel much like sprinting. Quite happy about the runs, the first one wasn't very clean but the map and terrain were dodgy, the second one was pretty clean and I hung on mentally despite being really tired. The third run wasn't much fun anymore but at least it wasn't very long.

Running 40:00 [3] 8.0 km (5:00 / km)

To and from Parc Montsouris. On road, but not too bad (at least the pavements are wide!)

Running 12:02 [4] 2.5 km (4:49 / km) +80m 4:09 / km

Sprint race, Parc Montsouris, set by Neil. Somehow it turns out that an O map exists of this park near home that we have run in for the past 2 years. Somehow it turns out that there are permanent controls out there as well, but as they are wooden stakes without flags that are mostly hidden in the undergrowth, we had never seen any of them...

Took more time to punch (control card plus fiddly punch in the wooden stake) than to run, but fun nonetheless!

it was 11:30 at night but I just had to go out and loosen up the legs...

Running 10:00 [2] 1.0 mi (10:00 / mi)

warm up

Orienteering 1:15:20 [4] 8.9 km (8:28 / km) +220m 7:32 / km

Nationale 2, Long Distance. Happy both physically and technically (about 3 minutes of mistakes), but clearly not fast enough right now as the winner took 65 minutes..

Running 10:00 [2] 1.0 mi (10:00 / mi)

warm up

Orienteering 46:22 [4] 6.9 km (6:43 / km) +50m 6:29 / km

French Nationale 2, Middle Distance. Felt ok physically but too many mistakes. Area very fast and open and not very technical, but a few bingo controls

Short run home through Bois. Tired but not bad.

Running 10:00 [2] 1.0 mi (10:00 / mi)

warmup

Orienteering 56:53 [3] 5.8 km (9:48 / km) +280m 7:54 / km

Austrian middle distance champs. Not a bad run actually until the mid point, then a few mistakes, but not more than 6 minutes lost. Fastest time was 38 (pretty amazing), I'm just in no shape to run these kind of races competitively.

My last race in elite for a little while, I think. It's just too stressful to always run against really good people, even though I obviously know I can't beat them I still feel I have to run faster than I want to.

Another lovely day out though. What an amazing forest!

Running 10:00 [2] 1.0 mi (10:00 / mi)

warmup

Orienteering 45:32 [3] 6.0 km (7:35 / km) +190m 6:33 / km

Austrian relay champs. A decent enough effort, but our team was disqualified as the first runner didn't finish...

An absolutely amazing forest in northern Austria though, rocky, challenging yet really enjoyable
