Orienteering 59:24 [4] 8.5 km (6:59 / km) +100m 6:36 / km

Last day of Sylvester 5 days in Belgium. An ok run, but not particularly motivated as I was quite tired and it was raining pretty hard. Too many small mistakes though.

Sunday Dec 29, 2002 #

Running 47:00 [4] 11.0 km (4:16 / km)

Terrain intervals 2x16mins, with 5mins each of warmup, in beween and warmdown. Tough forest but great training. It is still raining though...

Friday Dec 27, 2002 #

Running 1:03:46 [4] 9.0 mi (7:05 / mi)

Tempo run with Abi in Siebengebirge, near Bonn, Germany. Meant to go orienteering in Antwerpen but couldn't be bothered to drive for 2 hours. nice run though.

Tuesday Dec 24, 2002 #

Running 45:36 [3] 9.5 km (4:48 / km)

Sunday Dec 22, 2002 #

Running 1:43:20 [3] 17.8 km (5:48 / km) +500m 5:05 / km

Thursday Dec 19, 2002 #

Running 5:00 [3] 0.5 mi (10:00 / mi)

Run to gym = warmup + saves time..

Gym 43:00 [3]

Still not 100% but getting there. Pretty tired from not sleeping much as well.

Usual stuff: 5 mins rowing WU
20 mins elliptical 394 cal (16/20)
15 mins bike 10/12
3 mins rowing WD

Tuesday Dec 17, 2002 #

Strength 30:00 [3]

2 sets, easing back into training. Felt better than Sunday and last week's strength training, but still not 100%. Hopefully will try a run tomorrow..

Sunday Dec 15, 2002 #

Orienteering 1:14:02 [3] 10.0 km (7:24 / km)

Went out even though I wasn't sure I should...went ok for 45 mins but then I got really tired and started getting overtaken by young and old alike, that's when I decided to quit and go home. It wasn't actually that much nearer to run back straight than past the controls, but there wasn't much point really.

Running 25:00 [3] 2.0 mi (12:30 / mi)

Warmup and to and from the car park in Paris

Saturday Dec 14, 2002 #

Running 20:00 [2] 2.5 mi (8:00 / mi)
(sick)

Futile attempt at a run. Don't feel that sick, just very weak and tired, definitely fighting something off..Abi has it as well so at least it shouldn't be the return of my mystery illness from last year.

Wednesday Dec 11, 2002 #

Strength 45:00 [3]

3 sets, felt surprisingly tired given all the sleep that I have had the last few days..think I may be fighting off some kind of a bug..it would be about time for me to get a cold again, I've been ok for 6+ months which is unusual given the experience of the least few years

Tuesday Dec 10, 2002 #

Gym 43:00 [4]

the usual: 8min rowing (5 warmup, 3 warmdown)
20min elliptical (level 16/20, tough)
15min cycling (level 10/12, relatively easy)

Sunday Dec 8, 2002 #

Running 1:09:52 [4] 10.0 mi (6:59 / mi)

Another pretty fast run, to Cité Universitaire with Tomas around and back, all running this time (no metro). Felt really good and pushed it quite hard, 17.15 to get there compared to 18.30 on usual long runs..

Note

It's very interesting how suddenly I appear to have become a lot faster and fitter, now that I do a lot less training than I did when I was in Boston. Possible reasons are:

- I generally train faster because I have less of a chance to get out
- I am less tired because I train less and therefore the quality training really has a chance to stick, or simply
- now that I train less the Boston training finally has a chance to "come through"

But I will try and read up more about fast vs slow training, and whether 5hrs quality could be better than 8hrs mixed..I am starting to warm up to Emil Zatopek's comment which goes something like this "when I train I run fast, because I want to learn how to run fast. Why should I run slow, I already know how to run slow"

Saturday Dec 7, 2002 #

Running 1:40:12 [3] 13.0 mi (7:42 / mi)

The long run. Usual area, plus I added on some running in Jardins de Luxembourg. Felt pretty tired towards the end, not surprising given fast 10k run only 12 hours earlier.

Friday Dec 6, 2002 #

Running 43:47 [4] 10.5 km (4:10 / km)

The usual run, a minute faster than fastest ever to date, wow. I ran with my orange Asics racing shoes which are really light and it makes such a difference to speed, and also (mostly probably) to mental attitude - I just felt faster, so I ran faster! I think this best time will stand for a while though

Thursday Dec 5, 2002 #

Gym 43:00 [3]

Gym at lunch time
8min rowing (5 up 3 down)
20min elliptical
15mins cycling

Tuesday Dec 3, 2002 #

Strength 45:00 [3]

3 sets. Felt ok given lack of sleep. A friend of Abi's was around when I strength'd and she reckoned I was doing it all wrong. Nice to know after 2 years..

Sunday Dec 1, 2002 #

Running 44:11 [4] 6.0 mi (7:22 / mi)

Terrain run in Cologne, Germany. The woods near my dads house are ideal for this kind of training because they are pretty much full of crap like brashings, fallen trees, and mud. Had a backache by the end of it, not sure whether that's related to the run though.
