Running 37:02 [3] 5.1 mi (7:16 / mi)

River to Harvard +1. Feels weird to run in the cold and dark, almost unreal. But feeling more positive today, except that the top of my right foot hurts a lot, right underneath of where the shoelace knot is. Hope I can get rid of that quickly.

Running 39:25 [4] 5.8 mi (6:48 / mi)

River to Longfellow, +1. Well almost. I had really strong headwind on the way back (Boston side) so decided that 40 minutes fast was enough, and that I was going to do the last ten minutes slow.

Incidentally, has anybody ever noticed that there is sometimes headwind on both sides on the Charles (between Harvard and Longfellow especially). How does that work? Does the wind turn around in the middle of the Charles basin or what? Very strange...

Running 9:23 [3] 1.3 mi (7:13 / mi)

The rest of the loop, warming down (not that I was all that "warm" before)

Monday Oct 29, 2001 #

Running 37:49 [2] 5.1 mi (7:25 / mi)

River to Harvard +1. Tried to stay at 140 pulse which meant I went a bit slower than usual. Nice and relaxing though.

Running (Cross-Country) 32:47 [5] 4.93 mi (6:39 / mi)

Mayors Cup in Franklin Park. I'm not made for cross country...but at least I escaped being last!

Running 16:00 [2] 2.0 mi (8:00 / mi)

Warm up and warm down

Orienteering 40:00 [2] 3.3 km (12:07 / km)

Pawtuckaway training day, exercise 1: Control picking. I hung this one so it took a little longer to check everything. Good technically though.

Orienteering 43:00 [3] 5.8 km (7:25 / km)

Exercise 2: rerun of this years day 1 green course

Orienteering 53:00 [3] 5.6 km (9:28 / km)

Exercise 3: Attackpoint training on Big Island. Much tougher runnability here.

Friday Oct 26, 2001 #

Running 57:22 [3] 8.2 mi (7:00 / mi)

To Jamaica Pond. Not as fast as I hoped for, but at least I made it under 7 (barely). Still feeling very sluggish though, some kind of total-body-tiredness. Must start eating vitamins or something.

Thursday Oct 25, 2001 #

Running 11:38 [2] 1.5 mi (7:45 / mi)

Humid + tired = try again tomorrow. hopefully it'll work out then, at least I got a good stretch out of it.

Wednesday Oct 24, 2001 #

Running 43:55 [3] 6.1 mi (7:12 / mi)

LA to North Harvard from Shad, plus woodpath. Felt very tired today despite slow pace. May take tomorrow off and do my 8m run Friday, we'll see.

Tuesday Oct 23, 2001 #

Running 42:37 [4] 6.1 mi (6:59 / mi)

LA to North Harvard, from Shad and including the woodpath, with Greg T. Started off slow and sped up significantly. Feeling pretty good, hopeful that I can get 4 good weeks' training under my belt.

Monday Oct 22, 2001 #

Running 28:41 [4] 4.2 mi (6:50 / mi)

Today was supposed to be a slow day but I organized an outing for the HBS Running Club, expecting only slow people to show up...some fast people did show up and I had to run with them...so a little faster than planned. hopefully won't bite me tomorrow..

Sunday Oct 21, 2001 #

Orienteering 52:21 [4] 9.4 km (5:34 / km)

Day 2 of Rochester, 7.5k+190m, thick in places, beautiful in others. A very good run, pretty fast and only a few 15sec mistakes. Won the day, wey-hey!

Orienteering 20:00 [2] 2.5 mi (8:00 / mi)

Warm down with Kenny and Misha

Saturday Oct 20, 2001 #

Orienteering 1:44:29 [4] 17.1 km (6:07 / km)

Day 1 of Rochester A-Meet. 12.6+450, very tough runnability in places, also steep in some (not so much up as along slopes). Felt very tired but not a bas run nonetheless.

Thursday Oct 18, 2001 #

Running 22:32 [3] 3.0 mi (7:31 / mi)

to and from ems to pick up my new sleeping bag. still feeling weak, hopes for the weekend are pretty low..

Wednesday Oct 17, 2001 #

Running 42:18 [3] 6.0 mi (7:03 / mi)

LA to North Harvard, from Shad (+0.3), with Greg T. About 7.15 pace going out and then 6.50 coming back...a little too fast for my liking, especially coming back from illness. Going is still quite tough (and lungs are wheezing) but hopefully by the weekend it will be better. Will take it easy tomorrow

Sunday Oct 14, 2001 #

Orienteering 43:22 [3] 5.65 km (7:41 / km)

Green Course at Regis College. Quite a nice area actually (if a little small) but the *NEW* map is unfortunately very disappointing. Still, a nice day out.

Saturday Oct 13, 2001 #

Orienteering 2:21:00 [2] 11.0 mi (12:49 / mi)

Blu Job Rogaine in NH. Four hour maximum but decided ahead of time to only run for 2 1/2 hours or so. Nice for the first 90 minutes, then got pretty tired and cold (misty), so just ran home straight. Overall worth coming out though, beautiful leaves.

Friday Oct 12, 2001 #

Note

Sick today, Grrr, very frustrating. But I was going to do an easy week sometime soon, so it might as well be now.

Thursday Oct 11, 2001 #

Running 23:03 [3] 3.3 mi (6:59 / mi)

Home almost to Jamaica Pond. Had a sore throat all day but decided to go anyway. Bad idea as I totally ran out of steam after 20 minutes. Wanted to take an easy week next week but may have to shift that forward..

Running 20:00 [2] 2.7 mi (7:24 / mi)

Parts of the way back. Ugh.

Wednesday Oct 10, 2001 #

Running 44:21 [3] 6.2 mi (7:09 / mi)

LA to North Harvard and some extra bits, with Greg T. Felt tired, I think I have a cold coming.

There is a very nice bit of path through the woods on the Cambridge side just before Arsenal bridge (2-3 mins maybe?). First time I ran it after all these runs...must do it more in the future.

Tuesday Oct 9, 2001 #

Running 35:20 [3] 5.1 mi (6:56 / mi)

River-Harvard +1. Started slowly and then sped up. Pretty tired though altogether from jet lag.

Sunday Oct 7, 2001 #

Running 1:35:00 [3] 12.6 mi (7:32 / mi)

In Reykjavik again. Run included a bit of orienteering on a local map, but mostly running on bike tracks at night (but thankfully they were lit). A beautiful run actually

Saturday Oct 6, 2001 #

Running 39:36 [3] 5.3 mi (7:28 / mi)

In Reykjavik, Iceland. Very tired after overnight flight but surprisingly good run. Maybe because of the cold..

Thursday Oct 4, 2001 #

Running 55:27 [4] 8.2 mi (6:46 / mi)

to Jamaica Pond. Pretty tough, but glad I made it in the time. Should be able to do it in 54 or so on a really good day.

Looking forward to rest day tomorrow!

Wednesday Oct 3, 2001 #

Running 30:29 [3] 4.2 mi (7:15 / mi)

LA to Arsenal. Felt tough even at this pitiful speed...well it was hot and I am tired and whinge whinge whinge

Tuesday Oct 2, 2001 #

Running 37:51 [4] 5.7 mi (6:38 / mi)

Larz Anderson to North Harvard fast. Missed last year's record by 10 secs, not too bad. Think I started off a little too fast again (6.42), but overall not a bad effort considering the recent lack of sleep and general stress.

Monday Oct 1, 2001 #

Running 30:17 [3] 4.2 mi (7:13 / mi)

LA to Arsenal easy. Felt surprisingly good after yesterday's long run.
