Running (warmup) 23:20 [2] 3.3 mi (7:04 / mi)

Home to Boston Common

Running (Intervals) 10:59 [5] 2.0 mi (5:29 / mi)

Boston Common Intervals: 1.36, 1.30, 1.30, 1.37, 1.38, 1.36, 1.35. The second and third one were too fast.

Running (Recoveries) 17:30 [2] 2.0 mi (8:45 / mi)

Getting slower..

Running (Warmdown) 26:20 [2] 3.3 mi (7:59 / mi)

Horribly cold run back thanks to icy wind

Wednesday Feb 27, 2002 #

Gym (Treadmill) 30:00 [3] 4.2 mi (7:09 / mi)

Boooooring. But I couldn't be bothered to run through the wet snow.

Gym (Strength) 15:00 [4]

Upper body: 3x10 on each of 4 machines (push weights up, push weights down and out, pull weights down, and elbows together)

Gym (XCountry Machine) 30:00 [3]

I'm not sure this actually helps, because I didn't sweat much. But it did feel reasonably tiring (level 18 of 20)

Tuesday Feb 26, 2002 #

Running (Strides) 1:02:49 [4] 9.2 mi (6:50 / mi)

Shad to Watertown. About 7:00 base pace plus 10x strides (30,30,30,45,60,60,45,30,30,30 secs). Stomach feeling queasy throughout, not a very pleasant run. Speed good but fading towards the end.
30:40+30:01=60.42 between the bridges

Monday Feb 25, 2002 #

Strength 50:00 [3]

4 reduced sets (8 exercises each), as foot is still sore.

Sunday Feb 24, 2002 #

Running 2:00:30 [3] 15.1 mi (7:59 / mi)

Fells Long Run with Kenny and Abi. 40s, sunny, beautiful. The reservoir trails plus extras: Straight north from parking, around Long Pond, and the usual loop around Boojum.

Saturday Feb 23, 2002 #

Orienteering 43:45 [3] 5.8 km (7:33 / km)

Long course at College Woods. Took it easy, but navigated well. A beautiful day, but the woods were still pretty icy in places. (Interesting route choice problem: Avoid trails as much as possible!)

Friday Feb 22, 2002 #

Orienteering (Mapping) 20:00 [1]

Checking out Pine Hills West. It is a nice area, but I'm not sure Abi and I will be up to the task of mapping it...

Thursday Feb 21, 2002 #

Running 1:02:47 [4] 9.2 mi (6:49 / mi)

Shad to Watertown fast (31.00+29.42=60.42 between bridges). Rehearsal for sunday's half marathon, felt good.

Wednesday Feb 20, 2002 #

Spinning (hard) 41:00 [4]

Moved spinning up one day to give foot another day's rest. Felt much better than last week. Still not 100% fit, but was much more fun.

Spinning (warmup/down) 15:00 [2]

Tuesday Feb 19, 2002 #

Strength 36:00 [3]

3 shortened sets (8 instead of 10 workouts to take it easy on my foot)

Monday Feb 18, 2002 #

Orienteering (barely) 30:00 [1] 2.0 mi (15:00 / mi)

Some running, some compass and pacing training at Breakhart. Feeling tired, and lots of little painful niggles (foot, shoulder, shin). But I now know that my terrain pace is 38/100m.

Sunday Feb 17, 2002 #

Running 2:00:00 [3] 15.2 mi (7:54 / mi)

Exploring new bits of Blue Hills with Kenny, crazy Will and Abi. First south of the highway around Ponkapoag Pond (40 mins), then west from Houghtons Pond over Little Blue Hill to Fowl Meadow Reservation, then back along the road for a bit and along the north side of Great Blue Hill. Finally a loop of Houghtons Pond. Tired at the beginning (esp. uphill), then better.

Saturday Feb 16, 2002 #

Orienteering 1:39:55 [3] 14.0 km (7:08 / km)

4x3km at Mashamoquet Brook, CT. (A downhill: 25.23, B downhill 20.36, C uphill 26.16, D uphill and setting 27.40). A beautiful day. Felt pretty tired overall, especially up the hills. Good navigation, though.

Friday Feb 15, 2002 #

Running (forest) 52:08 [2] 6.0 mi (8:41 / mi)

With Kenny through Weston Reservation. Re-ran a green course (slowly), managed to make many fewer mistakes than the first time around! About half on trails, half off-trails

Thursday Feb 14, 2002 #

Spinning (hard) 40:00 [4]

This was tough today. I think I will definitely take next week off. Hopefully I can get a good weekend's training in before then.

Spinning (warmup/down) 15:00 [3]

Wednesday Feb 13, 2002 #

Running 1:21:12 [3] 11.5 mi (7:04 / mi)

Shad to Bridge St, Waltham. A little wiiindyyyyy as usual but nice sunshine. Felt ok out (headwind), very good back (mostly tailwind)

Tuesday Feb 12, 2002 #

Running 55:49 [4] 8.2 mi (6:48 / mi)

To Jamaica Pond, reasonably fast and including 11x30second strides at rep pace. Hopefully this will lead to intervals in a few weeks' time.

Legs felt strong (despite the gusty wind), brain felt weak..

Monday Feb 11, 2002 #

Note

Rest Day. Meant to do some strength, but my back hurts a lot. Hopefully back up to speed tomorrow

Sunday Feb 10, 2002 #

Running 2:16:30 [3] 16.8 mi (8:07 / mi)

With Will and Kenny through the Blue Hills. Felt reasonably good except for the last 30 minutes, where I was starting to feel a little *tired*. A great outing though, forest completely ice-free, great!

Saturday Feb 9, 2002 #

Running 1:18:28 [3] 11.1 mi (7:04 / mi)

Watertown. Started off a little fast for my current fitness level, so felt rather tired on the way back.

Friday Feb 8, 2002 #

Running 59:08 [3] 8.2 mi (7:13 / mi)

Terrible AM run to Jamaica Pond. Felt stiff, slow and tired.

Running 35:09 [4] 5.1 mi (6:54 / mi)

Much better PM run - had to try out my new running shoes and running pants. nice.

Thursday Feb 7, 2002 #

Running 10:00 [2] 1.4 mi (7:09 / mi)

Attempt at a fast run to Jamaica Pond. Felt sleepy all day and just couldn't face it. Haven't really had a day off for two weeks, so thought it was ok to give up. Hopefully a good three days' training up ahead though.

Wednesday Feb 6, 2002 #

Running 1:16:51 [3] 10.75 mi (7:09 / mi)

Shad / JFK Bridge upriver, past Watertown. Meant to go to Bridge St bridge (2nd one past Watertown) but ran out of time so turned around and crossed at the inclined footbridge. Nice day, felt pretty good but still tired. Back aches, too.

Tuesday Feb 5, 2002 #

Spinning (hard) 40:00 [3]

Had to switch around training days this week as I can't make spinning class on thursday. didn't like this one, though, no proper warm up and warm down, and not enough people.

feeling pretty tired, may take it a little easier this week.

Spinning (warmup/down) 10:00 [3]

Monday Feb 4, 2002 #

Strength 1:00:00 [3]

4 sets. felt ok despite being pretty tired all day.

Sunday Feb 3, 2002 #

Running 1:30:02 [2] 11.5 mi (7:50 / mi)

Painful run around Alewife, Minuteman and on roads. Fells were too icy and even the rest was not very good. Felt hungover. I think I will go to bed now.

Saturday Feb 2, 2002 #

Running 1:19:22 [3] 11.1 mi (7:09 / mi)

to Watertown. Rather cold, bit of a contrast to last week! Pretty icy after North Harvard bridge, but not too bad.

Friday Feb 1, 2002 #

Running 36:31 [3] 5.1 mi (7:10 / mi)

River to Harvard. Cold, wet, dark, foggy, brrr...felt ok though.

Strength 30:00 [3]

2 sets. tough to find motivation for this after a run.
