Strength 27:00 [1]

Back in BC. Had a fun visit back home, but there wasn't much activity (we kind of wimped out with the treacherously icy streets and the -30 C with windchill weather).

Starting a new Fitness Blender program called Mass. It's more strength training focused and is 4 times per week for 4 weeks. We'll see how it goes! Today was an upper body strength day with some jumping jacks thrown in.

Cardio and kickboxing video. This is the last real workout video of the program! There is a recovery workout tomorrow and a fitness test (that I didn't do at the beginning so not going to do on Friday). I think I'll try to add the 3 workouts that I missed (one cardio + bodyweight strength, one cardio, and one stretch) in the next week or so, so I can say I did all of them. I'm pleased with myself that I've managed to be this consistent over the past 8 weeks. And now off to NB!

Upper body strength workout out. The little tiny pulses at the end of sets were brutal.

Strength 28:00 [2]
ahr:139 max:174

Total body strength video with a couple of HIIT intervals. Week 7 done, one more to go! :) I do think my ability to do (modified) push ups has improved. They were really really bad before since I've essentially avoided all push ups for the past couple of years due to my wrist (I'm doing them on my knuckles now).

HIIT video. Phew, first time doing higher intensity in the past 1.5-2 weeks. Various body parts felt good enough. Bit worried I’m fighting a cold. Included a warm up and cool down stretch.

Cardio video today. I did all the low impact modifications since my I wanted to be careful with my ankle (it’s feeling a bit twingey, but not too bad) and my toe (it felt a little swollen or at least weird on some of the times when I tried to jump). These last two weeks have not really gone to plan, but at least I’m still doing something.

Warm up video.

Strength 24:00 [1]

I seem to be having the worst luck this week for body injuries. Last night I was taking out the recycling and caught the edge of my shoe going down the couple of stairs and rolled my ankle. It was pretty painful, and I had to sit down in the recycling room for a little while before considering moving. I did manage to walk afterwards, but it swelled up a bit. This was the ankle I sprained quite badly before. Back to theraband exercises for me...

I decided to do the core workout that was scheduled for Thursday today since it required less lower body movements. Convinced Oscar to do it with me too. Started burning about 2 minutes in, haha.

Warm up video

Strength 20:00 [2]

Lower body strength, had to modify some things because of my toe but figured something was better than nothing. It felt a bit swollen, but not super painful. Cut out all high impact exercises.

Strength 31:00 [1]

Upper body strength video.

My foot is hurting less and the swelling has gone down, but now it's purple (I'm assuming bruising). So strange. It's still not 100% comfortable though.

Wednesday Dec 6, 2017 #

Note

Fifth metatarsal joint is still inflamed and painful to put weight on. My googling suggests it may be a synovitis, bursitis, or capsulitis. I've been icing a bit to try to get the swelling down. I think it's a bit better than last night. Avoiding any high impact activities though, so no WET tonight for me and maybe no Lynn Valley WJR. The unexpectedness is especially frustrating, there was not a lot of warning.

Warm-up/Cool-down/Stretch 26:00 [0]

Did the pilates, yoga, stretch video from Saturday that I missed to move a little bit.

Tuesday Dec 5, 2017 #

Strength 34:00 [1]

Upper body strength (including warm up and cool down).

Note

For some reason, my joint near my baby toe on my right foot suddenly started swelling. There was no discernible trauma, but now it's swollen, red, tight feeling, and painful to put weight on... We'll see if it goes down soon (fingers crossed). This is on top of slicing my finger with a bread knife today, sigh.

Strength 33:00 [2]

Back on my Fitness Blender video schedule. I just skipped Friday's total body strength and Saturday's optional stretch. Maybe I'll add them in at some point later, but I think that was the right call. Today was a mix of HIIT and lower body strength activities. Not feeling super motivated before I started, but glad I got it done. Included a warm up and cool down.

Downhill Skiing 1:00:00 [1]

More skiing! Such a beautiful day out. Snow was pretty good except for some icy patches near the end of the day. Did some harder blue runs. Think everyone improved a lot over the course of the 3 days of skiing! There was a lot of traffic on the way home.

Downhill Skiing 1:00:00 [1]

Downhill skiing again with Mom and Oscar in Whistler. Some fresh snow. Lots of fun! Used my watch but we had a lot of stopping and starting, so I think it was a bit too much for it to handle. Saw some neat films as part of the Whistler Film Festival. The Disaster Artist and Becoming Burlesque were particularly notable. Oscar’s new to him ski gear seemed to work out pretty well!

Note
(rest day)

Have a workout (strength and hiit) scheduled for today, but I've been feeling super tired all week and want to give my body a little break. Not sure if it's because of not eating enough, not drinking enough water, overcomitting myself, the beginnings of a cold, or overexercising for my current level. Had a 2.5 hour nap yesterday.
