Note

Was excited for BC Champs on Victoria, but had a doctor's appointment on Thursday that resulted in me getting several stitches. I tried walking part of Course 4 of the long, but was just shuffling along and being really concerned about each foot placement. Decided after about 30 minutes that that was enough, since I was barely even thinking about the orienteering and was starting to feel a little uncomfortable. Decided not to run the sprint since hobbling on an urban map didn't seem super appealing.

Running 27:39 [1] 4.0 km (6:55 / km)
shoes: Asics Cumulus 17

I've been on the edge of a cold, but think I've pulled through (knock on wood). It was a lovely evening out so Oscar and I went a run. C25K Week 2 Day 1 now. Oscar was concerned that the 4 people who follow him on Strava would think he was slow, so Kate, he did it for me. :)

Running 30:00 [1] 4.0 km (7:30 / km)
shoes: Asics Cumulus 17

C25K Week 1 Day 3. My lower leg felt a little sore after all the running on the weekend, but it seemed okay during the run. Some twinges afterward. Managed to get out before the rain and clouds arrived! Next time I get to graduate to 90 seconds of jogging, woohoo!

Orienteering 1:14:35 [3]

Long at the Alberta Champs. Jumping from a 1:5,000 to 1:15,000 for the same area was a bit of a shock to the system. I had a hard time reading some of the trail details on the 1:15,000. Normally I don't have issues with 1:15,000, but I don't think I've run in places with such complicated trail networks. Was mostly on my own. Orienteering was fine, although it was quite a lot of trail running, so I mostly slow. I thought the course made good use of the area though. Glad to have made it out for the weekend! Drives were both smooth, visiting was top notch, really enjoyed myself orienteering, and the mountains with a dusting of snow on the top were just beautiful.

Orienteering 39:53 [3]

Middle at the Alberta Champs! When I was out there, I thought to myself "this is fun!" Nice course (even with the somewhat cold river crossing). Need to work a little more on staying on my compass since I was consistently getting off. No major mishaps, but some bobbles. Yay middles!

Orienteering 20:37 [3]
shoes: Saucony Progrid Xodus 2

Sprint at the Canmore Nordic Centre. Cool area for a sprint with all the ski trails. I felt quite reactive out there instead of planning ahead and don't have much (or any) running speed. Still had fun though. Should have had Tori and Graeme's overly enthusiastic cheering spur me on more in the finish chute as Nicki got me by 2 seconds.

Orienteering 19:01 [3]

SART Round 4. My group started super fast so I was just trying to hold on. Took a slightly better route choice on the long leg (or maybe just pushed more since I was by myself) and got in the lead, but was dying so got passed by Abra and Ing. Managed to sneak through for the final as the 5th person for the 41-45 grouping.

Orienteering 24:12 [3]

Sart Round 5. So tired and sore at this point. Butterflies were suprisingly similar lengths so there were still a lot of us together after the first one, but they slowly pulled away. Did fine in the aboretum, but was so tired on the last running section. Overall and super fun weekend. Probably did about as well I could be expected.

Orienteering 10:37 [3]
shoes: Asics Cumulus 17

SART Time Trial. Was not really prepared to make route choice decisions and reading through traps! Had a nice fall for not real apparent reason.

Orienteering 22:53 [3]

SART Round 1. Did a couple of weird things out there, although I was one of the few who got the route to control 1 right! Got in the bottom half of the bracket, which was probably appropriate. My lungs were feeling the past week of being on the edge of a cold.

Orienteering 18:41 [3]

SART Round 2. First heat of real pack running. Just behind Kyle for most of it although I did try to take different route choices and we'd pop back out with me a similar distance back. Fairly smooth orienteering.

Orienteering 20:10 [3]

SART Round 4. Definitely was not really reading ahead at the beginning when I was running with everyone. Took the lead for a little bit although didn't nail the control. Then Abra took a different route than Kate and I for the long leg. Lead for a lot of it after that except when we rejoined with Abra, and Kate powered through the last two controls (just different have another gear). Fun and tiring, although I really do need a better headlamp.

C25K Day 1 Run 1. I decided just to use the app, as it's very similar to what my physio told me. It's toasty outside!
