Shamrock Day 2 Classic distance - Shrone Hill

Course distance, not actual distance
What a time! 180 club!! :D

Again have gone through each leg already, but wow what a day. Very physical terrain out there, lots of leg lifting and not enough actual running. Plenty falling/sliding/jumping/diving...
Big mistake to 2 where I somehow relocated at 5!! After that it got better. Didn't like the planning of legs 6,7,8. I went the lower from 6 to 7 and met a train of men going to 8, they'd basically made a path too! But I liked the other open stuff. Was in a bit of a pack with Regina and Ruth for about half of it. Got ahead of both but then lost it in the forest :( More practice needed just! But very impressive runs all around must be said :)

Shamrock Day 1 Middle Distance - Cobdubh South
Race distance, not actual distance

Already analysed this with Teresa on Saturday so not going through it again. But this was alright! Misty day to start but that cleared and wasn't too inconventient anyway. I messed up 1 and 4 pretty badly: 1 because I hadn't got my head in the map, and 4 because I took off too fast on a wrong bearing. The others were slightly off at the control area but generally good enough. Was running with Cliona, Josh's brother and another guy at different intervals. Definitely improving at this anyway, the practice is helping and much smoother than used to be I guess! Good map and course!

Hill & Dale Race 7
Loughshannagh Horseshoe

Fantastic race! "Proper mountain race" according to McCloy, longest Hill & Dale and probably the toughest? Involved 3 peaks with steep ascents and steep descents. First summit is Carn Mountain then in sequence, Doan, Loughshannagh, Ott and back to finish line at starting point. Last one was a small peak. Not my best running, but so glad I went, loved it!

First hill was easy enough. Wasn't pushing that hard as was a little worried about the Shamrock this weekend. But was really shocked by the steep descents - never done this course before, so I turned a corner and the ground just dropped! I was soo slow here.. I was ahead of the other three women around my level til this stage when they really overtook me.
So I hurried on to the next peak and caught them on this uphill, but didn't manage to get away from them. Another steep descent but not so bad this time.
Round the lake and up the third peak. I found this the toughest mentally? For some reason I just didn't want to go uphill anymore! But somehow just kept going, stubbornness maybe, or most likely I didn't want to lose the other girls? Then actually overtook them to the top, whoo. Then that downhill was mighty :D Felt so good just to drop them and go flying along, amazing fun.
Up another small hill then down to the finish.. Was trying to catch another lady who'd been further ahead during the race but I fell on the last muddy bit. So close!

15th lady out of 41
129/201 overall

WEE 4
Belfast Gasworks, 2.86km, 10m

New map and great area! I really enjoyed this! Quite sneaky and could feel a bit of the Jonny planning going on - lots of choices and tricks, but really fun. I made a huge, huge mistake on the way too 5, running too fast and passed my turnoff, need to be more careful. There were other wee mistakes which would just cost time too but nothing major. Last in the series so tonight's mistakes cost me my prize! Good to see the Queens folks again. Can't wait for this Queens chair :-)

Crossmurrin... again...

Yeah I totally went back to this. Very pleased I did too, went a lot better! However I did mess up leg 10-11 pretttyyyy badly, those trees were the worst. Chatted to Teresa after, very excited for the weekend now!! :-)

1 - road, path, wall, avoid the cows
2 - avoid more cows, fence crossing, round the trees
3 - no controls today so was being careful to get the right depression. Still easy.
4 - Bearing past stones then trees. Hard to tell where the earthwalls are, so spent some time making sure. Pretty vague and veg on the map isn't that accurate. Checked I got it anyway with walls, fences and trees
5 - Past the wall, re-entrant
6 - fence/sheepfold, right of the cliff, contoured, slightly too high
7 - straight to it
8 - between the hills, down and right into the trees. These last few controls were all lovely running, limestone area so mind the ankle, but really nice
9 - Slightly too high, didn't see the light green and ran to it first, then 9
10 - straight to it
11 - Buggered it up mightily. Into the trees (messy), out onto the hill, back into the trees and didn't check my bearing enough, ended up soo far west it was really bad! Finally relocated then along the fence to 11 but it could have been much simpler. (The trees I'm talking about are all hazel, meant I was bent double, very slow and distracting)
12 - Past the wall, road, round the marsh
and finish!!
