Note

Home. Hot. Doms in calves from Thursday's walk is still crazy sore. Dan's dislike for bushwalking is greater than ever.

Cycling 5:25:00 [3] 105.0 km (3:06 / km) +2670m 2:45 / km

Last ride in chiayi. Climb up to fenquihu was tough - it's 40k of mostly climbing to get there, and finishes with a 3k ramp which hits 32%. The town is a cute little tourist village. A bit more climbing to the top of the pass. Amazing valley over the back and a long run trending downhill. Just enough pinch climbs to remind you that your legs are truly wrecked.

walk 2:00:00 [1]

Rest-ish day. Took the bus up the mountain to Alishan to check out the mountain forest. Turns out it's mostly replanted after the forestry did for most of it, but the regrowth is now 70+ yrs old so quite a nice forest again. They did leave quite a few of the very big trees which are 2000+yrs old and massive.
Did about 10k of walking - most of which was stairs. Pretty tired. Must have been the altitude - can't think of any other reason for my legs to be sore.

Tea and coffee ride. Also bananas, oranges, dragon fruit, some other palm nuts, pineapples, orchids and a range of veggies.

Cycling 4:37:00 [3] 90.0 km (3:05 / km) +2000m 2:46 / km

Last ride of the year (decade). Went out after it had stopped raining. Still wet out and spent a fair bit of time in thick cloud. Visibility of less than 50m for lots of it made for sketchy riding. Could have been shit but actually quite a good ride in the end.

Note

Cracked 400hrs on attackpoint for the first time. Mainly due to more cycling, although my big cycling years were pre AP.
Also least amount of high intensity training for an AP year.

It's been another frustrating year with injury. It's now been 3 years trying to sort out this piriformis/ sciatic/ hammy thing.
At least i can cycle to keep me sane. The biggest training improvement has definitely been being able to cycle to work.

Best race for the year would be the act middle at wee jasper.
Best ride - the Tourmalet and cirque de troumouse.
Best run - not 'best' but the evening runs in 40°C up at Cannington were definitely an experience.
Most wft moment - the China trip. For so many reasons.

Note
(rest day)

More rain so another day off. Had a sort of plan to get a bus up the mountain but the forecast for up there is worse. Now we need to decide whether to sacrifice a ride day to go, or ride there. It would be a 130k day.
