Orienteering race 2:40:36 [4] 21.0 km (7:39 / km) +800m 6:25 / km

Ultralong OY at Brooklands/Rosenthal. Piss poor number of entries on Hard 1 - just me and some rogaining guy. There was a big group of junior boys on Hard 2 which was about 14k. We had 4 legs - a short scatter (11 of 13 controls), then a long loop north, a long loop south and a short course to finish. Most of H1 and H2 took off on the long loop north together, although the other guy on H1 went straight down the wrong hill - he was clearly in for a long day. The long loop north was in the easy running country and cruised around pretty well - looked at my watch towards the end of the loop and was surprised to see I'd been out for an hour and done 10k... much further than I thought I'd gotten, but then started feeling a little tired.
Took my map for the second loop - which looked very familiar. Turns out our southern loops hadn't been printed... oops. A quick loop through the spare maps pile and I ended up with the southern loop map from H2, which was about the same distance, so took off on that loop after a little delay.
Southern loop was a bit tougher - a fair bit hillier and lots of fallen timber, with some tricky controls. Started finding it quite tough to keep running through the rough stuff on this loop.
Just the short finish loop to go... but got to the changeover to find that the maps had been packed up, so back through the map pile to find my map... my two biggest time losses for the day were looking for maps!
The annoyance of the second map stuff up got me halfway round the last loop, but the last hill coming home was quite a struggle to keep running, and I'd started having little cramps in my calves and hammies.

Very nice day out - pity about the map stuffups, and the lack of competition. The rogaine guy only made it around one loop.

Note

Dan is still sick... "I feel like a sprayed cockroach looking for somewhere to die."

Orienteering race 21:25 [4] 3.7 km (5:47 / km) +50m 5:25 / km

middle at Sandy creek, club event with pin punching, which really messed with keeping map contact. it was all up in the erosion in the north end and simeon set a good course. run was a bit scrappy but the map isn't that good either.

Running hills (Anzac Park TT) 27:38 [5] 5.2 km (5:19 / km) +260m 4:15 / km

Similar story to last week. not really motivated, and decided not to push it too hard as I'm a bit worried I'll catch Dan's cold, but once I got going it was ok.

Running intervals (smt intervals) 20:00 [5]

10*400m on 2 mins... its getting a little repetitive, but its a good session and I haven't thought of anything better to do. feeling a bit flat tonight, and died a bit towards the end. it was drizzling slightly and the oval was a bit slippery. a bit slower this evening.

Running warm up/down 20:00 [2]

there was a bunch of kids hanging out in the sheds at the oval. first time i've seen anyone there at night other than the occasional dog-walker. the strange part was they just seemed to be hanging out quietly listening to music... the weren't even smoking pot. kids these days.

Yoga 1:00:00 [2]

slow but hurty yoga class. different instructor who I didn't like. we seemed to hold all the lunging poses for ages - legs not happy. but then we did some good hip stretches at the end. helen turned up as well - she was even more annoyed by the airy fairy yoga talk than I was (she went to a morning class last week that turned out to be more meditation than exercise yoga and the instructor told them to breathe through their anus).
