Orienteering race 17:21 [5] 3.1 km (5:36 / km) +25m 5:23 / km

euromeeting Sprint at lossiemouth. good section at the start through a housing estate with lots of small paths. not too many dead ends but hard to keep track of where you were as it all looked the same. ran well through this section but ran out of legs in the quarry section at the end.

Running warm up/down 30:00 [2]

Orienteering race 1:15:03 [5] 8.5 km (8:50 / km) +90m 8:23 / km

day 3 at culbin. on the less good part of the map, probably as the better parts have been saved for woc.
tough run with lots of heather and pine thinnings and not particularly tricky nav. really struggled physically and lost a bit of time in places where I was focusing too much on just moving forward and not enough on the destination.

Running warm up/down 35:00 [2]

Orienteering race 35:02 [5] 4.55 km (7:42 / km)

day 2 at Carse of Ardersier. better race today and could really get into running hard in the terrain. unfortunately ruined a good race by heading straight from 15 to 17 and losing 2 mins before I realised. Times were close and it cost a lot of places. oh well.

Running warm up/down 30:00 [2]

Orienteering race 1:10:47 [4] 7.9 km (8:58 / km) +70m 8:35 / km

Scottish 6 day. day 1 at lossie in coastal sand dunes. pissing rain all day. started ok, although probably a little cautious as all the sand dune controls at the start were close to tracks. took the track routes though the middle part of the course as it was pretty tough running through the forest with the heather. had been going quite well until the last few controls where I lost concentration and blew 8 mins on 2 controls, although partly due to map dodginess in that area, particularly in the green.

Running warm up/down 20:00 [2]

warm up. warm down was the last few controls not knowing where I was.

Running 30:00 [2]

run with Rosie on the isle of wight. silly dog tried to drag my arm off for the first 5 mins, then settled down ok. found some nice paths through the forest.

walk 8:00:00 [1]

climb to the top of mt civetta at 3220m, awesome view, clear on top with all the other high peaks poking up through the cloud.
then the climb down the mountain and walk around to tif. coldai and down to the car. we stopped for a late lunch at coldai and dad decided that he'd done enough and that our next planned walk would be replaced by sightseeing by car.

walk 6:00:00 [1]

the climb up to the start of feratta tissi and the climb up the ferrata. had been told a few days ago that this was closed and that the hut at the top was also closed, then spoke to some Aussie guys who had been in contact with the hut keeper and apparently the hut and feratta were open.
it turned out that the snow had mostly gone, but there were still sections of the ferrata buried in snow and we were happy to have ice axes and extra rope.
the hut keeper turned out to be completely insane and washanding out shots of grappa and snowboarding downthe patches of snow above the cliffs between attempts to resemble the hut.

easy but scenic walk around the western side of the civetta from rif. coldai to rif. vazzoler. good to give the legs a rest.

Running 53:00 [3]

run around lake levicio with heike. beautiful spot and a nice run but legs very after a few big days walking. decided to take the flat option as I would have been useless on hills. I don't think I slowed heike down to much.
2 PM

walk 1:30:00 [1]

walk up to rif. coldai for the start of our walk around the civetta.

walk 7:00:00 [1]

big day starting from rif. vallaccia around the federspiel. found some challenging and exposed ferratas, and some places where a ferrata would have been very nice!
the last part of the ridgeline had some ww1 ruins from the old Austrian front line. interesting tunnels to explore.
finished with a long downhill to the car.

Running 46:00 [3]

had an unexpected day in Munich today. had a nice wander around town, and a good jetlag induced nap. went out for a run in the evening along the isar river. typical slow jetlag run, with extra leg soreness from the long o on Sunday.
nice enough run along the river, and got into some good parks near where I turned around but this is definitely a city where the main sport is beer drinking, so I did that too.

Orienteering race 2:58:59 [4] 21.2 km (8:27 / km)

long o at waterfall gully. mass start race with 3 loops. I ran in south, then east, then north. the map was a Rogaine map at 1:30000 with 10m contours in hillyfarmland. I cruised the first loop, then picked up my camelbak and some food at the start of the second. the second loop was a bit harder and I was getting tired at the end. the last loop was tough and I really struggled the last half hour to finish under 3 hrs. definitely noticed the lack of serious training recently!
nice area and it would be good to have an o map of most of it.
James smashed us and finished in 2.15 and mat ran 2.50.
