Running race 5:49:00 [3] 52.0 km (6:43 / km) +1750m 5:45 / km
Glasshouse 50 ultra. The course starts by running straight up mt beerburrum, then does 2 25k laps (clockwise, then ac). The run (walk) up the mt was a bit shit, cos its really steep - fine for the walk up, but smashes your legs on the way back down, so my quads were hurting from the first couple of k.
first half of the main lap was quite flat, and the second part a bit hillier and rougher. generally a good mix of fast fire trail which is good for getting some ks out of the way, and single track, walking track, rough stuff etc, which keeps it interesting. first lap felt really good, but started to get a little tired at the end, and had some tummy troubles.
third quarter sucked. heaps of hills, and legs were really starting to get tired, and took a wrong turn and added about a k and a bit (and really feeling that my longest training run was 2hrs!). got a bit of a lift at the main aid station when they said it was only 12k to the finish (had thought it was 16), and some nice flat roads made it easy to keep a steady pace. and I hit the gels in the last part of the race (mainly just had food and sports drink till then), and got a good lift. realised when I got to the last check at 5.30, and they said it was only 3k left that I was going to get in under 6 - yay!
Legs were really sore on the last lap - especially each time I started running again. feet ok - only one decent blister on my little toe. hopefully after a few days I'll be able to walk normally again.
Dan was super support crew. magically appeared at every checkpoint with lots of food and gels. Thank-you!
