Cycling 2:00:00 [3]

ride at you yangs with lee and andy, and dan and ash. great trails! so much fun. thought I was going to die a couple of times on one of the downhill tracks.

Orienteering race 34:03 [5] 5.3 km (6:25 / km)

middle race on a sprint map at ballarat uni. really fun race, but made a couple of dumb mistakes. turned up the wrong road on the first long leg (brain obviously severely oxygen deprived), and ignored a control that was on the wrong feature that was actually mine (on a tree, marked as thicket). probably lost about 90secs all up with those.
going slow, but happy to have been able to run 5 days in a row. bit of an achievement for me at the moment. hopefully things are on the mend and this stupid hip injury doesn't write off 2009 as well.

Running warm up/down 20:00 [2]

Tuesday Dec 30, 2008 #

Orienteering race 51:59 [3] 5.9 km (8:49 / km)

st georges lake. run was pretty similar to yesterday - very limited by stuffed feet. nice course though, and more mining stuff than I expected, so all good.

Running warm up/down 20:00 [2]

Orienteering race 52:13 [3] 6.2 km (8:25 / km)

creswick diggings. love this map, but couldn't run fast today. blisters very sore - I think they might be a bit infected, yuck!!
cruised around as well as I could - really not motivated to hurt my feet too much.

Running warm up/down 20:00 [2]

Sunday Dec 28, 2008 #

Orienteering race 45:01 [4] 5.9 km (7:38 / km)

fun race at mt tarengower. nearly missed my start - had stuffed around dropping Dan and Ash in Daylesford so ended up a bit too late, then got caught behind some slow traffic and ended up arriving 7 mins before my start. the first few controls were a bit rushed, and made mistakes on 2 and 5 (going way too high). then got passed by tooms and brucey and tried to stay on that train for as long as possible. so last part of the course was good, but I'd lost too much time by then. feet pretty sore.

Running warm up/down 10:00 [2]

warm down only

Cycling 1:30:00 [3] 22.0 km (4:05 / km)

rode from creswick to ballarat on the goldfields trail with Dan.

Event: XMAS 5 Days

Orienteering race 48:22 [5] 6.0 km (8:04 / km)

Day 1 of xmas 5days at sailors creek. took a few controls to remember how to do the whole O thing, but got going eventually. some typical sailors creek slogs up green hills, and some wild erosion gully crossings, but then the last loop in the mining was great.
hot day and had some pretty huge blisters that were making it pretty hard to run by the end. first of the girls and scored some very yummy bickies.

Running warm up/down 20:00 [2]

Cycling 1:30:00 [4]

morning lap of stromlo before driving to vic.

Thursday Dec 25, 2008 #

Cycling 3:30:00 [3]

christmas morning ride at stromlo (ash had a great stack on one of the tabletops out the back), and afternoon followup lap. was going to ride at kowen or somewhere else, but the tracks at stromlo are too awesome to bother going anywhere else (we were camping at cotter also).
great way to spend christmas...
and santa brought me pink ay-ups!

Wednesday Dec 24, 2008 #

Note
(rest day)

stuffed after yesterday, and I'm on driving duty to pick the boys up after doing the 6 ft track.

Tuesday Dec 23, 2008 #

Running hills 9:00 [5]

cruised down the stairs at the 3 sisters to see how far down 900 stairs really is (a long way apparently), and then off course had to run/walk/climb back up. nice benchmark, should be easy to beat if I go there again without rain and tourists, and with shoes instead of plugs (time includes one re-plugging)

Cycling 1:30:00 [3]

ride out to narrow neck. way easier and shorter than I remember (bit of an epic last year when I was sick). very glad for tubeless tyres - no pinch flats for me!! (ash not so lucky)

Cycling 1:30:00 [3]

easy little evening ride at kanangra walls (or at least thats what it was sold as) nice view of the sunset hitting the cliffs, and saw some cool black cockatoos with red heads.

Monday Dec 22, 2008 #

Cycling 1:20:00 [3]

cruisy ride in the sand dune tracks from mylestrom (sth of coffs). would be great area for O - awesome sanddunes with nice runnable rainforest.

Cycling 30:00 [5]

playing in the jumps park in mylestrom after driving all day

Saturday Dec 20, 2008 #

Running 30:00 [2]

easy run in the rainforest before driving back to brissy

Friday Dec 19, 2008 #

Running 1:00:00 [3]

run on the rainforest trails at the bunya mountains. very nice.

did the first 20mins with helen... its good running with helen - she can't run and talk at the same time!

Wednesday Dec 17, 2008 #

Gym 45:00 [4]

training at race elements. new program, but not a smashfest this week cos I've been sick.

Tuesday Dec 16, 2008 #

Note
(sick) (rest day)

still sick. back to the podiatrist today though.

Note

orthotics will be ready when I get home in january. I hope they work!

Sunday Dec 14, 2008 #

Note
(sick) (rest day)

no training today.

Friday Dec 12, 2008 #

Running 21:00 [2]
(injured)

short test run with second layer of arch support in shoe. seemed to work ok. no hip pain when running (just before and after)

Wednesday Dec 10, 2008 #

Running 40:00 [3]

easy run from home. hip was sore when I was running on soft or uneven stuff, but ok on hard stuff.

Tuesday Dec 9, 2008 #

Note
(injured) (rest day)

went to podiatrist to get my hip fixed. he recons its going to be easy-pesy, I just need an orthotic to stop my right foot pronating. have a thing in my shoe for a couple of runs, and another thing to add in for a few more runs.

still feeling insanely tired (from nothing), so made it a total rest day today.

Monday Dec 8, 2008 #

Gym 45:00 [4]

training at race elements. unload week thank goodness. really tired.

Sunday Dec 7, 2008 #

Cycling race 1:30:00 [4]

4hr mtb race. bailed after 2 laps cos a) the course was so muddy it was a carry/walk effort, b) my back/hip was killing me, c) bike wasn't changing gear, and got stuck in a gear that made climbing really hard and hurt my back more. d) I can't afford to replace the drivetrain again, e) the course was heaps muddier on the second lap, and only getting worse.

Saturday Dec 6, 2008 #

Cycling 45:00 [2]

token ride at Gap Creek to sweat out remaining alcohol, and wake up legs for tomorrows race. was insanely hot, so this ride took us 90mins to do with all the standing round. tomorrow is going to hurt (just hopefully not as much as this morning!)

Friday Dec 5, 2008 #

Running 37:50 [4]
(injured)

easy run to long pocket, that ended up quite fast. hip was sore again.

Thursday Dec 4, 2008 #

Running 42:00 [2]
slept:9.0

easy run. wore some old shoes cos it was raining. big mistake - hip was sore, and felt like I was running like a duck. shoes went in the bin.

Wednesday Dec 3, 2008 #

Note
slept:3.0

why does my body always try and chuck a sicky on me before I'm meant to go running at Anzac Park? My throat started hurting at about 2pm.... and did the same last week. time for some htfu.

Running hills (Anzac Park TT) 28:47 [5] 5.2 km (5:32 / km)

anzac park smashfest. slow, but not as slow as it felt. second half was totally shite, and nearly had to walk up the last couple of hills. had to have a little lie down at the finish. not good.

Running warm up/down 20:00 [1]

went out to the swamp crossing to check that it wasn't under water any more, and put a few more logs so it was runnable

Tuesday Dec 2, 2008 #

pilates 1:00:00 [1]
slept:5.0

pilates class

Monday Dec 1, 2008 #

Cycling 50:00 [3]
slept:6.0

I had been planning on going for a ride at karringal after the tri yesterday, but by the time it was over it was stinking hot, the track was muddy and I had a shocker of a headache... so I bailed.

decided when I woke up this morning that I could fit in a lap of gap creek before training at race. all good, and I think I might make this a regular gig. need to start a little earlier though.

gap creek is pretty clear now. they've done a massive job clearing trails over the weekend. lantana/jacobs is clear to within about 100m of the top! and everything else in the main part (GC west) is clear. found a new track near kakoda.

Gym 50:00 [5]

training at race elements. load week. all weights went up - so hard!! did 45kg on bench press!

Running 40:00 [3]

easy run.
