was going to ride with trolls this morning after I dropped helen at the airport. but after crap sleep and getting up at 4am, and hip still sore after yesterday I couldn't be bothered. rest day for me. drank coffee (there'll be a lot more of that today), watched morning tv and did lots of stretching.

nice easy run. itb and hip were hurting for a while around 40mins, but then stopped hurting before I made it home. lots of stretching.

another nasty orienteering dream. after a run at the aus champs carnival everyone was covered in evil skin burrowing leach things that hurt and wouldn't come off. much discussion as to how to get rid of them, and whether going to maryb hospital was going to help.

woke up with feet covered in mossie bites.

the exercises the physio gave me were pretty much all pilates stuff, so I figured it was easier just to go to a class.

training at race elements. good programme atm, but arms are totally dead. hopefully I won't be as sore as last week!

I think I caught 'orienteering nightmare syndrome' off biddy.
race was a woc middle qual. was trying to get ready to race, but kept getting dragged off to do other stuff. then all my gear kept going missing. found running gear, but not o-gear to run in, but had missed my start. then shoe laces kept coming undone over and over. then compass was only the round bit, and kept dropping it. when I picked up my map, there were 4 maps, all totally different. eventually figured out which one was the course I was supposed to run, but then the north lines kept swapping around so I was going in the wrong direction. then I woke up.

Mtb ride from campsite at kenilworth.
dan decided that we would ride up some stupid mountain first, which ended up being a grannygear climb for about an hour... except for when we had to carry the bikes. not much fun.
but then after we camp back down we found some single track, so it was all ok again.

MTBO long 1:44:44 [4] 26.0 km (4:02 / km)

qld long distance. same same. went out of my way to avoid any potentially lantana invested tracks. heaps of controls were half way up/down really steep loose tracks which made for interesting stopping.

got a slow flat near the end, but half a gas cylinder kept it going to the finish. getting better at climbing on the ss, so rode more of the hills.

MTBO race 1:00:29 [4] 11.6 km (5:13 / km)

after an extended campaign of pestering, helen conned me into going to the qld mtbo champs. wasn't meant to be too hilly, so I took Dan's 29er single speed.
most of the course was quite fun... the map was about as good as expected in most places (ie not very), but got really pissed off when a supposedly good track disappeared into a giant lantana thicket and I got totally shredded trying to get out.

SS was fun. had to walk a couple of steep hills, but other than that it was all good. bit scary on the first few steep descents cos you're so high off the ground.

easy run to long pocket. the war on the dodgy hip continues - physio gave me an elastic belt thing to stabilise my hips when I run.

first trolls ride in ages. heaps of people back riding now that is light and warm in the mornings. fast (but apparently slower than its been), but held on ok.
first ride for the new shoes I picked up in NZ (half price!). specialized roadies. they've got orthotic-style arch support in them so that your foot doesn't flatten out with each peddle stroke. felt heaps different to my shitty old shimano shoes, but I think they'll be really good. and they're really pretty!

"ride as many trails as possible with minimum effort" ride - aka, take the shuttle to the top of the mountain. another awesome day, but very tired and ready to go home.

'unlucky bec' had another trip to hospital today - collision with kid on bmx on the way to forest resulted in broken+dislocated little finger... which is now in a really dorky splint. poor bec!

whaka50 race at rotorua. slow and unfit, but the race was really fun. massively hit the wall at the end... but didn't actually crash in the whole race!!
