Orienteering race 1:18:47 [5] 10.1 km (7:48 / km)

NOL long at gardens of little stone. not quite the terrain I was expecting, but enjoyed it anyway. The first part of the course was just running as hard as possible and staying on compass. My legs seemed to go ok as long as it wasn't too steep (although any uphill was bad by the end) and compass was okish (saved by reasonable visibility). The last part of the course was nice, but couldn't race as hard as I would have liked due to lack of running on the hills.
Some small mistakes through the course, but the worst time loss was at the end where control circles covered a parallel ditch and a contour line - basically all the detail around the control. A few of us were there making the same mistake, and eventually I ran up the hill to look, because it wasn't anywhere else. I got it, but was pretty pissed about it. Such a lazy mistake by the controller to spoil an otherwise good race.

Orienteering race 16:28 [5] 2.5 km (6:35 / km)

NOL sprint relay. Plenty of pre-race stress wondering if David was going to turn up on time, and what we were going to do about out third leg runner if he didn't show up. It turned out that they were stuck in traffic, but arrived while Rachel was out on first leg so it was fine. Rachel had a good first leg, and took some aggressive route choices running against Lizzie and Jas. She was first through the spectator, but a few seconds down into the finish. Mat and David had solid but unspectacular runs and I went out in 10th, a few minutes behind the pack.
I managed a reasonable run, although not very inspiring when all the real racing is gone already. Good to have been warned about the various issues with the course, but still had issues interpreting the map in some areas.

Our mission to find a shower on the way back out to camping in Newnes was unsuccessful as the pool was closed. Turns out the best option was the gym.

walk 2:00:00 [1]

bushwalk with Dad, Jas and Clare Bs to the glow-worm tunnel at Newnes. Nice walk and great views. I really liked the rail track section before the tunnel but under the cliffs.

walk 7:30:00 [1]

Canyoning trip with Dad and Jas to Starlight canyon at Newnes. Really awesome day out and the canyon was awesome, particularly the tunnel section... although we were all quite glad the track had brought us in to a section of abseils that landed us below the tunnel instead of above it - that way when we walked up the tunnel we could turn around when it got deep enough to require swimming, rather than having to swim down through it.

Running intervals 12:00 [4]

6x400m on 2 min cycle, at SMT oval with Winnie and Lauren. had been feeling a bit off all day, so did these at a "comfortably fast" pace. times between 91 and 93 secs.

Running 39:44 [4]

Street O score event in Toowong, with 40 min time limit, 20 controls. Wasn't sure how many I could get, so planned a route that got them all and figured I could drop some towards the end if I ran out of time. Had 10 at 21mins, so figured I needed to start ditching some - ended up skipping 3 controls for 120 points, and got home with 16 secs to spare.

Running felt much better than any time in recent months. yay!

Running intervals 12:00 [4]

Been feeling pretty rotten today, and my back is really killing me - I think yesterday's trip to the chiro improved things overall, but stirred up stuff to begin with.

I did 6x400m on 2mins, at a comfortably fast pace - all were between 89 and 91 secs.

Only James turned up tonight.

(sick)

So I guess this explains half of why I was feeling so bad on the weekend. Chiro appointment this afternoon should sort the rest out.

Orienteering race 1:18:17 [4] 8.8 km (8:54 / km) +200m 7:59 / km

OY at Rosenthal Creek.
We had quite an eventful morning getting to the race. On the way out of Warwick we found a little dog that had been run over, so we picked it up and took it to the vet. Turns out the dog had a broken leg, but will be ok, and has been returned to its owner. But waiting for the vet took quite a while and it was much later than we'd planned getting to the event.
Then on the drive south we could see a big storm coming in from the south. It hit just as we got to the event, and pissed down with rain for about 15 mins. I think this worked out well for us because it was much cooler after the storm, but it took a while to find us some dry maps. Those who had been out running without map bags were in big trouble and several had to dnf.

The run itself was ok, but not great. one stupid mistake on 4, where I was on the right line, but then misread a gully and ran over to the next spur. dumb.
Nav was ok other than that, but really struggled running. No energy, and had a very weird numb feeling in the back of my legs and had no power up the hills or to lift my legs (and there was a lot of fallen timber). I think its part of the problems I've had with my back, so off to the chiro this week!

Orienteering race 47:55 [4] 5.9 km (8:07 / km)

BBB club event at Sandy Creek. Really nice out, with not much grass, but lots of cactuses and a hot day. Nav was a bit disappointingly easy but lost time having to stop and pull out cactuses every few hundred metres.
Felt like I was really struggling in the heat, so tried to keep a bit in reserve for tmw.
also got 6 ticks!

Running intervals 21:00 [5]

10x 400m on 2min at SMT oval with Mark, Su Yan and Lauren. Goal was to run this well with good pacing, and not destroy myself (particularly my calves!).
Times were consistent, although not as quick as I've done previously, especially at the start, but felt like I was running smoothly and not having to smash myself to keep times consistent at the end. win.

Orienteering race 33:41 [4]

Night O in anzac park. Mass start race, with a long first leg and good route choice options. most of the runners on the long just followed me out of the start, but then ran past in the street section, so I was in about 10th for the first few controls, and towards the back of the pack. Took a different route to the pack on the long leg back towards the forest and got past a few there, then just running with Paul for the last part of the course, until he took an adventurous route choice back into the park area.

Took a while to warm up in the first part of the course, but felt good running towards the end.
