Orienteering race 45:00 [5]

Aus relays. 1st leg. Got a good start but then made a dumb mistake at 7 and lost a couple of minutes. Was just behind jas coming through the spectator control but then didn't see her after that. Got a bit off line and missed one of the crossings and got totally stuck in the green. Came in about 10 secs behind jas.

Orienteering race 1:01:59 [5] 9.5 km (6:31 / km)

Aus Long. disappointing race. was never going to be particularly quick, and didn't really have a lot of energy left after a long week, but had hoped to at least hold things together navigationally. instead I managed to blow about 8 mins in the last loop and turn a semi-respectable result into another crap one.

Orienteering race 20:03 [5]

Aus Sprint. Completely awful weather - horizontal freezing rain which made the rock slabs around the coastline super slippery and dangerous. it was a pity about the weather, cos the area was awesome and would have been a great day out if the sun was shining.
the first control was really tricky - mainly to adapt to the scale in time to pick the entrance to the coastal rock slabs. I thought the mapping around the rock was good - simplified well so that it made sense at speed (not that there was much of that) and consistent.
I got through with no real mistakes - just not quick enough to make much of an impression on the times of the fast girls. pretty happy with my place overall - very good for me in a sprint!

Tas Long. Epic day out. had nothing in the legs after yesterday and suffered the whole way, not helped by some dumb mistakes.

Orienteering race 49:55 [5] 4.9 km (10:11 / km)

Aus middle. Complete lack of fitness coming into these races meant that I was going to have to prioritise to try and get something ok out of the carnival. With this and the sprint as selection for the nz world cups I figured it was one to go for, particularly a it was a bit shorter and very technical.

Got a good start and was lucky to get some very hidden controls early on. Very clean until 14 where I vagues out and took 3 hours to find the ditch in the green. Lost about 3 mins here. Was ok then until the long leg where i died on the hills. Then made a stupid mistake cos I couldn't understand the map in the clearing. Pretty happy with second. Definitely better than expected.

Orienteering 31:50 [3]

Street O at rosalie. final for the winter series. all went much better than the previous attempt (made it to the start on time, no injuries!) but didn't feel awesome running. took it reasonably easy to give my legs a chance to recover before the weekend.

Buhot creek event. good reminder of why I go here to mtb and not orienteer. there was a lot of track running, which avoided most of the fairly scrappy bush, but not a lot of orienteering in between. got bored and decided to quit a few times, but kept going cos I need to do some 'training' before aus champs.

left itb has been quite sore the last few days, so I've spent a heap of time trying to stretch it out. seems to be working... hopefully. meanwhile, my right hammy tightness seems to have gone for the moment. (not that I trust it to have gotten better). and so the injury roulette continues.

massive running fail. did a lap of the park area at anzac park before my leg hurt too much and I had to walk home... at least I was within easy walking distance this time. was so pissed off when I got home that I fixed my bike.
