Orienteering 9:00:00 [1]
running around organising the second NOL sprint at UQ. big day, but all worked out well in the end.
we got to the uni quite early to put out controls, and encountered our first attempt at an event ending crisis - the road through the area which had the early part of the courses was closed and a crane was loading building materials on to a building roof. fortunately they promised to be gone by lunchtime, and wouldn't impact on the event.
as we were putting out controls we found a bunch of other fenced off areas - turns out saturday morning is a hive of activity for contractors at the uni, but there was enough pedestrian access around the building areas that it wasn't going to disrupt runners.
things went busily, but smoothly for the rest of the morning (even found time for lunch!!), but when runners started coming in it became apparent that there was a problem with the controls. it took us a little while to figure out, including a run around the potentially offending numbers, but still no joy. eventually we figured that it was swapped SI units - 68 and 89, that we hadn't noticed when putting out the controls. fortunately Tim could just swap them in the computer and it was all good for the rest of the event.
The elite race went really well - the start worked fine and the races were exciting, and it seemed like most of the runners really enjoyed the courses. Very happy that it all worked out well in the end and to be finally done with NOL organising duties (for this round at least!).
Also great to have so many people come to dinner afterwards, and actually have time to talk to people!
