Gym 50:00 [4]

tired, so the session at race today was a bit hard going. left leg still not cooperating (knee and hip still swollen), so changed a couple of things round to avoid the major leg exercises

Cycling 1:00:00 [2]

very slow ride out to mt alford to see if I could get the leg moving again. was ok, but anything fast was definitely not an option.

Cycling 1:00:00 [3]

mtb night ride at gap creek.
was trying to keep up with dan when I stacked on my least fav bit of track. front wheel dropped into a rut I hadn't seen and I was flying over the handlebars. smashed up my knee (lots of blood!), and bruised my hip. Slow painful ride out.

found out I came off rather lightly - Jayds shoulder surgery next week is due to a crash on the same corner.

Cycling race 4:00:00 [3]

Day 2 of 24h mtb race.
woke up feeling like shit, and eventually went out to find my glasses from where I left them last night when my bike crapped out. Headed out with Prue who was on her 16th lap or something silly like that, and cruise the lap with her. Felt ok, and decided to do another couple of laps. about 150ks all up.
Dans team won overall by a few laps, and picked up $2k

Cycling race 6:30:00 [3]

Day 1 of 24h mtb race. did a few good laps at the start, and was cruising pretty comfortably with Prue (who won in the end). Day laps were good, but then had a mechanical (chain-suck, then chain came off and somehow got jammed between the middle and small chain rings (in the middle of the mudpit). Fortunately one of the ftr mechanics was only a couple of mins behind and he fixed it (which turned out to be quite a job!). Proceeded to have a couple of stacks on that lap, and had run way low on go-power, so called it quits. Cleaned of the mud, had some dinner and a massage and a good sleep. Would have liked to do a few night laps, but the prospect of getting all cold and muddy again really didn't appeal.

Note
(injured) (sick) (rest day)

Dragged my sorry ass off the couch to get to the physio to try and fix my hip/knee/itb/back. Much elbow was used, but limited progress made. I think its going to be a while before my itb is better.

one positive though - I think I'm actually getting better from my sore throat virus thing. feeling heaps better than yesterday!

Gym 45:00 [3]

Easy session this week at Race. about time too - last week nearly killed me, and I was in major pain for days.

Swim 1:00:00 [3]

snorkelling around the wrecks at tangalooma on moreton island. very cool - hundreds of little fishes that didn't care at all that you were swimming around them, and heaps of coral on the wrecks. Swimming in the wrecks was a bit scary though - they were covered in barnacles and other nasty stuff, and the current was really strong and kept pushing you into stuff. We had a great swim around until Dan got too cold, but the others wussed out early... we assumed it was cos the water was cold, but turned out they'd seen a shark.

Cycling 2:10:00 [4]

Dan dragged me out for a night mtb ride at Gap Creek. Was quite fun, but took a while to get into the groove of night riding again. I always seem to start off looking straight down at my front wheel, and get surprised whenever I encounter a corner etc, but eventually let go of my death grip on the brakes and had some fun. Track was a bit washed out after all the rain last weekend which made a few spots quite interesting. and nearly ran over a little red-belly black snake (it was a bit of a warm day, but wtf was it doing out on a winter night?)
hit the wall big time on the climb back over mt coottha... lunch was at 11.30 so the tank had run very empty.

Cycling 1:45:00 [4] 50.0 km (2:06 / km)

River loop with trolls. Felt pretty good riding this morning. kinda strange out, really foggy, but also really warm - didn't need any winter gear at all!
yummy breakfast at 16th.

Yoga 1:30:00 [1]

yoga. took helen along, and was hoping for a good laugh, but she was actually pretty ok and got the hang of it really easily. feeling very sore after yesterday, so it was good to stretch out, and I'm glad todays session didn't have too many quad-burning poses!

Gym 45:00 [5]

smashfest this week. felt pretty good (but now know I won't tomorrow), but I guess thats what having a week of not training will do.
yuck moment when my finger started bleeding when I was doing chin-ups and dripped on me - ew!

Note
(injured)

the sun finally came out, so we planned to do a mtb ride up mt nebo... but I managed to injure myself before we even got to leave. was cleaning my chain and spinning the crank with one finger, and suddenly my finger was jammed into the deraileur with a tooth of the big chainring stabbed through my fingernail. much blood and bad language, and that was the end of the ride cos there was no way I could hold on to the handlebars for 4 hours. poor fingernail is now v-black with a 5mm slice in it, and very painfull - why does such a small injury hurt so much?? and why do I keep managing to injure myself in such stupid, yet creative ways??
