Orienteering race 45:24 [4] 6.0 km (7:34 / km)

TT Middle distance at Blue Mountain, Peekskill, New York

Felt good in the morning with another hour of AC session in the car during the drive to the park. The weather was cooler and raining (at least while driving and preparing for the race) Humid and worm but a bit fresher and bearable than yesterday.

As for the race and the course. Looked like the perfect course for me. Downhil middle distance course in technical terrain (we had a 2 km walk to the start mostly uphill), not very hot weather, and raining. Started steady and careful, reading ahead and pacing, But nothing cooperated today. I was overrunning almost every control, regardles of the fact that I actually paced. Always stopped, relocated and corrected and did not loose more than 30 sec to a minute, but this was for most of the controls.

And then there was 10. The plastic bag again got scratched on the line to 10 and the whole leg was unreadable. Again some moisture got in the map, making it unreadable. Tried to guess what's going on, around the circle, used my compass and paced, but ended up too much to the left.
For 13 got a huge paralel error looking for the control too much to the left up the slope.
And finally the torture was over.

Overal lost over 11 minutes in a completley brainlessly executed race.

Rest of the morning and in the afternoon, soaked in the lake, tried to drink and eat fruits again as much as possible, and "enjoyed" again the cold and hot waves through my body that came back around noon as the weather got too hot again.

It will be a loong day flying back to Seatte, having about 7.5 hours of dehidrating air time with one layover in Charlotte.

On the plus side, watched the Team announsments for this year's WOC in France and the exitement of the guys and girls that made the cut. I ended up as 3rd alternate

And met Anders again, a sharp norwegian guy that spent this spring here in US, (in Texas) for a college internship and showed us some real orienteering.

Orienteering race 2:08:36 [4] 16.0 km (8:02 / km)

TT Long at Blue Mountain, New York

Ran good for about 70 min then the heat go to me. The map disintegrated exactly at the crossing of the lines of the three long legs because of the plastic bag got a small scratch at some point and some sweat came in (paper quality was very poor and this should not happen on a major race like that). So for 15 and 19 had to go on around route choises since I did not know what's on the map along the direct lines :(

Bonked in the last 4 km and walked the last long leg and from 19 to the end.

Lost 11 pounds of weight in 2 hours and 10 mins in the forest...

For the rest of the day: throwing up couple of times, and enduring alternating hot and cold waves through my body. The 20 min soak in the lake was great help, and the AC during the drive back a blessing. Ah stopped at REI and got a Brooks Cascadia trail runners for 69 bucks (110 normal price). That's I guess the high note of the day.
Stomach got good enough to accept fluids and food by 7 - 8 PM so drank alot, ate bunch of fruits, yougurt soup (tarator) thanks to Pavlina without garlic), recovery drinks, more watter, etc... steady and continuously to about 11 ish.

Orienteering race 15:03 [5] 3.5 km (4:18 / km)

TT Sprint at SUNY College, Purchase, New York

Short enough so that the heat did not bother me at all. Did not take the route choices through the tunnels for 9 and 13. (10" and 20" respectively) And for 5 could not see the passage through the buildings going stright, so decided to just go lieft around the building (5")

30 - 35 sec lost.
