Run 38:00 [3] 6.3 km (6:02 / km)

Places I never really expected to be: staying in an airport hotel in Canberra. (I was up here for a workshop today at ADFA, flew in last night because flying in in the morning in Canberra at this time of year is asking for trouble, and the airport is as convenient to ADFA as anywhere).

I thought I'd take the opportunity to explore a bit of Canberra I've never been to: Pialligo. This is a strip of orchards, nurseries and market gardens (and these days a vineyard) which pre-dates modern Canberra; surprised we never got dragged out here as kids but I guess the garden centre at Jamison (now defunct, I think) was sufficient for our family's needs. (Trips to the garden centre were a 1970s/1980s ritual for many a Canberra family, along with weekend hauls with a trailer out to the West Belconnen tip; I'm just old enough to remember when the tip was instead on what's now the northeast part of the Bruce Ridge map). Had hoped to get down to the river but that part was private property, and needed a bit more to get the time up close to 40 minutes, so ventured into part of Duntroon too.

Felt pretty flat on the run despite the invigorating running conditions - one of those brilliantly clear but cold (-3) mornings that Canberra specialises in. (The -9.8 at Glen Innes - or the Queensland May record -6.9 at Stanthorpe - may have been too much of a good thing). Hamstring a bit tight early but OK thereafter.
