Run intervals 20:00 [4] 3.0 km (6:40 / km)
10x1 minute on the flat strip of park next to the Hobart Cenotaph. Felt rather sleepy for most of it, starting to pick up a bit towards the end. Even then, not particularly sparkling, but it's the first time for a long time that I've managed to get through an intervals or fartlek session in the morning so I guess that counts as progress of a sort.
In Melbourne doing something like this close to the war memorial would be considered to be desecrating, but Hobart seems more relaxed (the amount of rubbish on the ground left over from Monday - it's a good vantage point for the Hobart Regatta - suggests any desecrating has long since been done). The memorial has an impressively long list of conflicts, from World War I to the Indonesian Confrontation (which the present Australian government appears to be attempting to revive).
Run warm up/down 21:00 [3] 4.0 km (5:15 / km)
Warm up/down from the session. Better going back than heading out.
The conference first day went well, though I didn't get much of a chance to relax (my tally for the day was two talks, two sets of opening remarks, four media interviews and two meetings). Managed to get through without too many issues - the main one was that there were numerous spelling errors in the slide displayed when the Governor was speaking (but even that was perhaps fitting because one of the things he mentioned in his speech was poor literacy standards in Tasmania).
