ORIENTEERING race 44:48 [3] 7.11 km (6:18 / km)

2015 British Middle Championships - M21E
O Distance: 6.1km

In general a pretty scrappy run. I didn't plan several of my legs enough and made several mistakes in and near the circle because of it. Lost a total of at least four minutes in errors across to run. The larger of the mistakes were controls two, couldn't make sense of the terrain on approach, twenty-one, drifted too far left and took some time to realise my position and come back, and twenty-three, lost contact and ran past control. Much more navigation needed.

ORIENTEERING race 17:26 [3] 4.01 km (4:21 / km)

2015 British Sprint Championships - Men Open - Heat 1

I started the race by over simplifying the first leg which lost me around 15sec or so but it did introduce me to the map's main trap type early on in the race. Took the slightly longer option to number two (and maybe four) but then had a pretty clean race after that, with the only mentionable error being that I ran around the wrong side at number twenty-five. Placed ninth for my heat and qualified for the A final so was really pleased.

ORIENTEERING race 17:03 [3] 4.07 km (4:11 / km)

2015 British Sprint Championships - Men Open - A Final

First starter off in the A final. Stated off by missing the closed corridor to number one and lost 10s. Small wobble to number two but then clean through to number five. Lost some time on the approach to six but then messed up number seven (losing 25-30s). I didn't read a trap correctly (despite identifying it on the maps in start lane!) and then I was caught by my 'one minute man' and followed him into another trap. Followed him again the wrong way both in and out of number nine losing more time. Clean through number fourteen but I didn't see the option right to 15 (until now). Full body check collision with Duncan on the approach to number fifteen but managed to keep my feet (he wasn't so lucky, stopped briefly to see if he was OK). Lost 5s on seventeen running to the outside corner instead of the inside but otherwise a clean run home.

Overall a good experience and not the worst result, 15th best in the UK. I will take away a couple of things to work on though, namely not getting distracted by other competitors and to read the detail of the map some more.

RUNNING (fartlek) 35:00 [3] 8.0 km (4:23 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel-Cumulus 16

Run from work up the Thames towards Battersea and back. First speed session in a while. 10min warm up followed by 8x 1min on, 1min off and then 10min warm down. Felt OK, although tried not to go too hard with British Championships this weekend.

RUNNING 35:00 [3] 7.0 km (5:00 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel-Cumulus 16

Run from work around St James's Park and Green Park. The sun was out but it was very windy and the trees were dropping crap everywhere which meant the eyes had a pretty hard time especially when running into the wind. Not the most enjoyable outing. On the plus side though it was almost warm enough for shorts and a t-shirt.
