V easy ride with Tobias as I was feeling a little stir crazy inside. I can ride but have to be careful to bend knee without any twist. Still hurts to fully straighten.
Perhaps walked too much in the evening without cruches as knee was stiffer the next morning (dressed up with a band of gruesome witches to parade through town and scare away bad winter spirits or something like that- it's Switzerland silly season for the next month with 'Fasnacht'/Carnival)
Prepared a bunch of maps for some armchair training over the next months.
Some ideas: map memory, simplification, quick RC selection and anaylsis, continuous 'pen running' of course, visualisation, attackpoint practice.. any other specific ideas?
Note
Knee stiff, some gentle bending exercises. Walking hurts to push off and also to contract quads. Keep resting. 4x iced
Knee still very stiff and sore. Another Doc appointment- got a new knee brace to wear for the next 4 weeks and I don't need the crutches (except they help me walk a bit faster). Very impressed with efficient swiss doctors looking after me so quickly over new years.
MRI showed a torn (not completely) ligament on the in-side of right knee (Medial collateral ligament) and a small fracture at the top of the smaller lower leg bone (Fibula). Could be much worse, ie the inside of the knee is ok. 4-6weeks recovery no running.
I had a lot planned for the next 2 months including Portugal training in Feb and lots of long runs in the snow and XC skiing but I will have to think of new ways of training. A new challenge to start the year...
Another beautiful sunny day skiing, nice to be able to ski every run (although very slowly..) and not be spooked by the steep bits. Much improved!
In the afternoon we made the fateful decision to go Toboganning with my brother...
Note (injured)
What a way to end the year... After skiing we took the wooden sled down the rather extreme sled run- many steep icy corners with large holes and bumps. With two of us on the sled (and me being rather hopeless at steering) it was realy hard to control speed and direction. We had a crash early on where i twisted my knee but we had to keep going with Tobias bravely driving for both of us as my leg was useless for steering.. anyway we lost control again on one particuarly steep corner, hit some bumps and went flying with my knee twisting again. Agonising at the time and then we had to hobble back to the closest lift down.
Good decision to go to the hospital sooner rather than later- Xray showed nothing but suspected torn ligament so I was sent off with crutches (complete with ice picks), painkillers and a knee brace with an MRI promised for the next day in St Moritz.
