Oceania Middle distance- Yackandandah mining madness
I love middle distances, they are so much fun, so intense and so much happens in that 40 minutes! Unfortunately I was a late starter so didn't get to spectate watch the GPS tracking on the screen, it would have been so exciting! What an awesome event, great map and arena and courses!

I planned to be careful and not try to run fast but obviously didn't reinforce that well enough in my head to last through the whole course. Started well with the feeling I love best in orienteering - running fast through rough bush but still reading the map well and making good decisions rather than just charging straight and hoping (which I started doing later in the course). I was pretty clean up to the spectator loop with a good lead but it fell apart at #14 where I took 4 minutes of slightly frantic, inneffective relocation to find it. I think I left #13 too fast, being slightly annoyed that I was a little low (although didnt lose any time), and didn't bother to make a sensible route choice and just ran straight which was ok but I didn't have a good aproach. I was so close in the neighboring gully but lost confidence and went a bit headless chook.
Then rushed through the rest of the course and lost a further minute at the second last when I thought I was looking for a gully instead of a spur.

Obviously need to work on the mental aspect as I can run and navigate fast in technical terrain (faster than I realise) but make silly mistakes loosing way too much time, often towards the end of the course when I am within a few metres of the control (like WOC middle and relay)... Mainly dicipline with speed control and confidence.
Maybe it would be more satisfying to have run slowly and cleanly than fast but frustrated with the same result?

4th about 3.5mins down on Lizzie and 1min from Sus and Jo.

Running warm up/down 10:00 [2]
(injured)

left achilles was very sore when I started to warm up so I didn't. Took 2 nurufen before the start (thanks Lizzie) but still hurt though didnt notice it while racing till after

orienteering 20:00 [1]

collecting controls, without a compass! spiked them all (al slow speed...)
got hungry but had no appetite to eat... odd? similar to after yesterdays run, feeling queezy. Felt ok after forcing down some food.

Oceania Long distance- Warby ranges
I was looking forward to this run because I really enjoyed this map two years ago. I hoped/planned to have a clean run (last time mede some mistakes) and stop/slow when I felt unsure. Did the first shorter legs well and think I took a good route choice on the long leg though I lost a minute to Jo here (straightish up the creek to the left and up the vague gully- the approach seemed a bit risky but was actually fine).
Then from 8 (lost two minutes unconfident in bare rock in green) started being a bit messy through to 12 (took a wide route on 11 when I just had to run straight up the hill). I was a bit suprised to be called out as 4minutes behind Jo at the spectator control. Also I had just caught Kate Morrison (first person I saw out on course) and she seemed to be running really quickly, so I upped the pace a bit but was still concentrating well. Suprised but pleased to pull back 3.5mins on Jo.
2nd 30secs behind Jo
Happy to have got some of my long distance mojo back this year, but still could be quicker- struggled a bit on the longer hills.

*note left achilles was a bit sore on in the last loop and walking around afterwards, but only when wearing shoes.

Home from work, mad weather, almost got blown off the track!

Running 29:00 [3]

Wet cold lap of Princess Park with Matt and Kate. Left shin is still sore and it didnt wear off by the end of the run. Ice. Stretch- calf tight.

riding (commute) 30:00 [3]

HOT headwind all the way home to work, but by the afternoon the storms were so crazy I had to get the tram home and leave the bike at work.

Running 17:00 [3]

Quick 'house run' with Matt and Ilka as we didnt make it to aths training- dealing with some kitchen flooding! Did two laps round Royal Park hill, I was going to go longer and do some light intervals but got spooked by the biggest lightning I have seen.. I swear I saw it strike one of the tall buildings in the city.

Running 1:00 [5]

Bolted from top of Royal Park hill after the big lightning bolt. I haven't run hard in way too long. Might struggle a bit after 1.5 months off, but I'm really looking forward to this weekend!
