orienteering 51:00 [3]
slept:8.0

Ran the W21E public race at Le Revard. The terrain was similar to the relay I think- lots of varying vegetation (quite thick and slow with some felled areas and clearings in depressions) and small ups and downs. Didn't push it super hard and tried to orienteer in a normal relaxed manner- not thinking about the terrain being hard or slow or foreign- orienteering is really the same thing regardless where you are! Mostly all the controlls popped up where I expected except one really vague depression at the end. Felt I was too slow between controlls- need to pick out fast routes.
2mins behind one of the swedish sprint medalists, but I think she must have been taking it easy too because I could have been quite a bit faster.

20mins easy run to the lake and 10mins back, after lovely swim. Really hot and humid, I don't normally sweat much but was dripping today!

orienteering race (WOC middle qualification) 30:00 [5]
slept:9.0

After yesterday I knew I needed to have a good run, not just careful. I have to remember to orienteer like I normally do, nothing changes except the terrain! So I ran a little more agressively haveing faith that if I read the map the controls would be there, and they were! Lost small amounts of time (#2 picking a slow approach and other hesitations) but was never really lost contact. The course didnt seem that hard with some track options, so there was little room for error, like the long qual. Qualified in 8th, 3:30 behind Minna, who I'm sure just jogged round ;)
Won the split to the last control for the second day in a row! Must have been my speedy cliff descent the the arena, which caused me to loose my map..

Running 30:00 [3]

20mins warm up (very long run to the pre start, which was really good for getting rid of nerves- felt good starting!)
warm down with Grace, our other qualifier :)

orienteering race (WOC long qualification) 58:00 [5]
slept:8.0

The first half of this course was in open steep meadows- so I could run hard and get rid of my nerves without the controls being too hard. Some route choice challenge- Im not sure that my route on the long 4th leg was the best- went straightish with a big climb. In the forest I was ok but maybe not confident enough, pausing maybe longer than I needed on a few, but was focussing on not making a big stuff up. Lost about half a minute on the second last control, was too low in the gully and uncertain. Arrived to the last control to frantic cheering from the Aussies, but the commentator announced just as I punched that I was 'just too late'
17th 12:17 behind Dana, the winner. 25 seconds from making the final. Disappointing, and even more so for Jas who missed out by 8 seconds :(

swimming 25:00 [2]

Did a 900m swim in Zurichsee out to an island with Jas and a few of Tobias' friends- some sort of swiss national day event. Was bit nervous about it being cold but it was awesome and very relaxed event, everyone seemed to be doing slow breast stroke with heads above water, making me feel like a good swimmer!
