Night-O race (DVOA) 1:34:12 [4] 6.0 km (15:42 / km)
shoes: Innovates

Great course. Fairly clean and put me in a much better mood. I was nervous for this one as last year I performed terribly on the night-o and I wanted to redeem myself.
Points:
1 - Took road to point one then hopped off to follow power lines. Ran past point and hit my back stop (road). Used distance estimation to determine where to reenter the woods and found the point immediately.
2 - Took road then trail (which was disappearing) straight to point 2. Helped that a bunch of orienteers were gathered around the point with their headlights beaming. Hard to miss.
3 - Got pretty lost here. Drifted too low on the hill and ended up on a trail. Was trying to use boulder fields as catching features, but proved more difficult than anticipated. Used turns in trails to figure out where I was and find the point. Took 24 minutes.
4 - Shot directly to corner of trail (attack point) and used that to find point.
5 - Ran up trail and jumped off at turn, point was right there.
6 - Got onto the road and took that up. Got pushed way down road by vegetation and contours. Lost time from that. Ran into 4 teammates. Told them we were at the intermittent stream and found point easily afterward.
7 - Ran to the river, crossed it and followed 2nd stream up until hit point.
8 - Lost, ran in circles for awhile until found manmade feature on ground which helped direct to point.
9 - Straight to 9.
10 - Forgot I hit 9 and got disoriented. Ran to catch up to teammates and find myself again.
11 - Jumped on road and took that nearly the entire way. Ran passed hidden trail, but turned back because I noticed the opening. Took the trail then popped off to get point.
12 - Straight to 12.
Finish - 1:04

Middle Course (Partner-O) 1:00:00 [4] 5.0 km (12:00 / km) +100m 10:55 / km

Partner-O
Partner: Brad Morton
Starting Point: 1 (Brad)
Finishing Point: 9 (Me)
Squats: 240+ (400 Total)
Push Ups: 200+ (400 Total)

Fun practice, kicked my butt, legs were going numb from excessive amount of squats. Felt pretty good and confident about my knowledge of West Point land. I feel like every year the maps become more and more clear and I can actually translate what I am seeing on the map into what I see in front of me.

Beautiful run today on some farm. Saw some really cool beehives and played with sheep. It was awesome. Made my day. Great 10 minute stretch/cool-down in a garden following.
