Orienteering race 50:28 [4] 4.4 km (11:28 / km)

Aus Middle Champs, Petticoat Gully.

Slightly closer to the winner today, but with a worse placing.

Took a lot of long-way-round routes today to avoid erosion gullies and/or green. Again, need to practise compass (and possibly just practise orienteering, I don't think I've done much apart from in Europe). Had problems in the control circle on a few (4, 6, 7, 11, 13) and crossed the wrong stile at the end. Legs felt so much better than yesterday! Breathing was a bit of a struggle though - I'm blaming hayfever (lack of training wouldn't help either).

Orienteering race 49:46 [4] 5.74 km (8:40 / km) +96m 8:00 / km

Vic Middle Distance Champs, Creswick Diggings.

Can't complain about 10th place off my training load for the last couple of months.

Mucked up the first control by trying to go through the green (I think I need to work on my compass again). Wide route north to 3 avoiding the green. Malin came into 7 as I was leaving, and saw her on and off for the rest of the race. No major mistakes today, but wasn't orienteering smoothly or cleanly in the technical terrain. And my legs felt absolutely rubbish - really stiff and sore, and breathing wasn't that flash either. Wasn't really into the map - at times things seemed to be taking a long time to come up, other times they popped up sooner than expected.

Beautiful afternoon to be out in the bush!

Secret CB training at Studley. A jog on the single track while talking through some legs on a Creswick map.

Good to get out a) in the forest, b) with a map, and c) with CB1.
