Oceania Long, Transit Flat

Took it carefully today aiming to not make any big mistakes and got through ok. The long leg was a real slog. Missed a few optimal route choices (right on 15, and east out of 15 to the road), had some small misses/hesitations (pulled way to low by the tapes on 6 - I may have actually run through the coaches zone which was only being set up when I went through, 13).

Real slog and tough to go forwards the terrain. Inspiring to watch the WC runners (and other Oceania girls going through me) and seeing how well they move through the junk. Happy when I finished :)

Thursday Jan 8, 2015 #

Oceania Middle, Coles Bay

Made it though ok until 13. I'm not entirely convinced I stayed on the map to 14. Lost contact and just kept ploughing on. Needed to hold compass through the green across the creek back into the white, but somehow the plan went awry. Turned around and was just heading south until I could relocate/hear the commentary when I came across Tash and some others. Held on to them until they took me to a control. I didn't really care which control we ended up at, so long as it was on my map. Took the rest of the course carefully.

Got to get some strength/terrain running into the program.

Had enough of orienteering so did a jigsaw puzzle instead. Good to know your strengths.

Tuesday Jan 6, 2015 #

Oceania Public Race, Rajah Rock

Did well on the short legs to 8, then lost the plot on the way to 9. Lost contact with the map, and took ages to find out where I was again (too low and not far enough). Mucked up the next control too (didn't lose height when I needed to). Had trouble relocating both times. Made it through the rest of the course ok.

Nice to have a cool off in the river afterwards!
