Orienteering (Long) 1:38:17 [3] 9.3 km (10:34 / km)

Wasn't too clean at the start. Messy on 1 and 3, and ran off into the green at 8 without a plan. Went the wrong way around some green at 10 too. Map 2: Struggled with 2 and 3 near the start again (didn't read descriptions for 3 and was looking at the tree instead of embankment). Made an error on the long leg and had planned to go up the hill over the train line - got to the back of Government House and realised I could go up the gully instead and save mountains of climb so cut across. Was pretty slow in the rocks and had to flip the map to relocate when I found 153 instead of 142.
Map 3: Section was ok, and nice to have a downhill finish. Caught back up to Jenny on the long leg back, but never got in front as she powered down the track. Then I missed 7 by a few metres and went right instead of left and she got me by a minute in the end. Almost ran past 10, but turned back much to David's disappointment.
Nowhere near as far back as I was in the long mass start last year, which is good. The field was much less spread out this time. Very impressed by the junior girls, who all put in a big effort to finish.

Event: Adelaide NOL

Orienteering (Sprint quali) 17:48 [3] 2.2 km (8:05 / km)

So many stairs and so much humidity! Ran quite hard hoping to qualify, and just scraped through in 6th in the faster heat. Navigated quite well (only got a little bushed on the way to 3) and didn't have the control on the multistorey which caused some confusion on other courses. Spent a little too much juice given there was another race to go...

Orienteering (Sprint final) 20:41 [3] 2.5 km (8:16 / km)

Woo last place in 21E! Although I did run some extra. Got to the first control to find Mary confused as the numbers didn't match. Then checked the course once I found that the 2nd control was wrong too. Made the mistake of not running back the same way we'd come, and missed seeing Rachel and Nicola - my aim at the time was to get back as quickly as possible and wasn't quite thinking clearly!

Hadn't been feeling that good before the start - feeling the heat and a bit of a headache. Got going again and my legs didn't have much zip. Didn't really make any mistakes, but didn't have enough left in the tank.

Core strength/stretching 12:00 [3]

Hard core

Kayaking (dragon boat) 40:00 [3]

Fairly hard paddle. Went from Etihad to the Bolte Bridge with a milk crate hanging off the back of the boat. Pretty hard work. I was really struggling at the start but then the coach gave me his super light paddle.

Riding 20:00 [3]

Running 30:00 [3]

Drills, run throughs, warm up, warm down, run throughs, warm down.

Running 10:00 [3]

It's not about how you train, just where. And the rest is psychological.

We went out into the park for their 'cross country' loop today - about 450m on grass. I'd been feeling very sleepy at work and almost nodded off before lunchtime. Was really slow in the warm up. Then killed it on the intervals. Matched it with some of the blokes. Not sure whether I was just going harder than usual because it was more enjoyable than track, or whether I was relatively quicker because I run in terrain.

2'13, 2'08, 2'03, 1'57, 1'51

First 3 felt pretty cruisy, the last 2 were a bit harder.
