Orienteering 47:43 [3]

Easter Day 1 - Lovelybanks East

Apparently didn't start that well again and Lanita (2 mins) pretty much caught me at #1. Lost contact a bit on 2, 3 and 7, and took a slower but more exciting route to 8 that involved going in a cave (well, overhang).

My only split in the top 10 was the one that involved scaling the side of a canyon :)

Enjoyed the day.

Orienteering 19:16 [3] 2.9 km (6:39 / km)

Easter Prologue - UTas Sandy Bay

Didn't get off to the best start - was confused by the 180 degree turn before we even got to the triangle, and then had to get around the big strut things behind the amphitheatre.

Had some good legs and some not so good ones (bit hesitant, missed the shorter route choice across the green gully). Wasn't prepared for the hills and bushy-ness of the area.

Never really felt like I got running properly. Hip flexor was not happy (sore even in warming up) and glute not doing anything much at all. Don't think the hip flexor liked the 5:40am walk to the tram stop with my backpack.

Running 13:52 [3]

5 x 15 stairs.

Given up on the new building already and went back to old faithful Nicholson St. Legs and lungs felt absolutely exhausted. Maybe not happy with being made to do stairs in the morning straight off the bike? Bit worried I'm getting sick before Easter (probably need to stress less about work :( )

Orienteering 1:06:16 [3] 4.7 km (14:06 / km)

State Series 1 - Mt Beckworth

Didn't quite make the middle distance winning time :( Things improved after struggling to get out of an erosion gully on the way to #1.

Navigation was generally ok. Seemed to be taking mostly high routes. Did muck up on the tricky second last - wanted to get away from Tony Radford and went in without a plan. Found a dude bouldering, but took longer to find the control (I was too high, and not far enough).

Physically wasn't feeling very good - had no confidence moving through the terrain, and felt 3000 stairs in my legs on the the hills.

Running 1:10:00 [3] 11.32 km (6:11 / km)

Was going along at a good pace for the first few k, but gradually got slower and tireder. Right leg still sore. Stayed dry for the first 40 mins.

Running 28:50 [3]

Stairs endurance session :)

10 x 15 = 150 floors, or 3000 stairs.

Tuesday Mar 20, 2018 #

Running 12:50 [3]

Yay for training :)

Did a sneaky (short) stair session, because going up hurts less then going forwards right now.

Only did 5 x 14 floors (70).

We are moving to a taller building on Friday, which is exciting so long as I can still access the stairs. If not, it's only across the road from Nicholson St.

Running 15:00 [3]

Slow jog. Hot. Sore. But not quite as bad as the other day.

Running 10:00 [3]

Feeling broken.

Was getting progressively sorer during the races at the weekend, and massage last night didn't fix me. Will keep stretching/rolling and keep the fingers crossed.

Orienteering 15:29 [3] 2.8 km (5:32 / km)

MSW - Royal Park

Unnecessarily asked for first start as the afternoon's course setter, not realising how narrow the start window would be anyway. Meant I got caught by a wrong code control, so I'm taking the 1.36 off my time between when my splits show I punched it the first and second times. Really fun area/course and happy with my run. Legs felt a bit weary, but they did ok. Navigated well too, so happy to finish the weekend with a good run :)

Orienteering 16:40 [3] 3.1 km (5:23 / km)

MSW sprint relay, Yarra Valley Grammar, 4th leg for VIC2

Felt happier about this run (and even happier with a 3rd place :) ). Felt more in control. There were still a few bobbles, but was reading things better (it being a less complex area helped...). Managed to punch 19, which was in the same location as a control I mp'ed on last outing there, so that's a definite improvement. Hammered the last few running legs as I thought Krystal was catching me (she was, but had more ground to make up than I realised). Good fun.

Orienteering 15:03 [3] 3.05 km (4:56 / km)

MSW - Kurunjang Schools

After the morning's good run, this was a comedy of errors (I was literally laughing at myself by the time Lanita caught me heading to 4). My goal for the race was to read ahead, which I did most successfully, navigating straight from 1 to 12. Then got lured into a dead end on 3-4. Pulled it together after that and improved though :)

My right leg has been gradually stiffening up over the races and continues to do so.

Orienteering 16:10 [3] 3.15 km (5:08 / km)

MSW Monash Clayton

Felt fairly overwhelmed during the race and never quite got my head into gear. Could never read/plan ahead, hesitated lots and occasionally ran past a few routes I had planned to take. Looking back though, I didn't do too badly picking route choices.

Orienteering 19:22 [3] 3.1 km (6:15 / km)

MSW Caufield Grammar.

Hot. Again, felt like there were lots of hesitations (and Mikkel got some thoroughly exciting footage of me standing still in the really complex playground area).

Caught sight of Rachel Allen on the way into the primary school, and finally got past her on the way to 15, only to misread 17 and get behind again. Got caught by the gate on 12-13 (as others did).

Had a few ok splits in the last few controls, which makes me happy about my running :)

Running 45:00 [3]

Kathmandu run club.

Some of the treacle Jayne was running through on Tuesday must have still been out there, because I was definitely caught in it. Legs felt very slow and heavy. Hadn't planned to do a session anyway, so just cruised around the loop while the others did efforts up the hills. Coach Maj had had way too much red cordial and was very enthusiastic.

Tuesday Mar 6, 2018 #

Running 44:00 intensity: (34:00 @3) + (10:00 @4) 8.0 km (5:30 / km)

Tuesday Trivia Run 'Club' (which involved 3 different people doing 3 different runs).

Did 10 x 1 min on, 1 min off. Went pretty hard in the on minutes, but my legs don't move very quickly.

Monday Mar 5, 2018 #

Core strength/stretching 10:00 [1]

Little bit of core while watching a day in my life at work on TV (not Utopia, but 4 Corners episode on climate change adaptation).

Sunday Mar 4, 2018 #

Orienteering 1:00:39 [3] 8.2 km (7:24 / km)

Heathcote Hagaby.

Didn't see anyone much after the first few controls on the first loop, but ran into Ted going out on the long loop. He was running away from me on the long legs, but I was picking him up in the circle.

Didn't feel too bad running, and a bit surprised to be so far back, but I guess running 18k in the heat isn't the best race prep.

Karma is spending the entire weekend joking about buying 30 steak and pepper pies from the bakery before Neil got there, then having the person in front of me in the queue buy the last vegetarian thing.

Saturday Mar 3, 2018 #

Running 2:20:00 [3] 18.1 km (7:44 / km)

Lake Jubilee > Lake Daylesford > Tipperary Springs > Bryces Flat and back with Jayne. Nice track, and pretty flat.

Hot! Left it too late to get going (and it got hot quickly anyway). Couldn't fit in my Camelback in my rushed packing on Friday morning, but very happy I decided to just carry a bottle. Felt pretty good and cruisy for the first 8k or so, then struggled a bit/lot. Newish shoes are definitely too big - feet were swimming around in them, particularly on any downhills.

Much needed dip in Lake Jubilee afterwards.

Discovered in the evening that we'd both had 'Long way to Tipperary' in our heads on the run but neither mentioned it for fear of getting it stuck in the other's head :)

Thursday Mar 1, 2018 #

Running 34:00 [3] 5.22 km (6:31 / km)

Kathmandu run club.

Did 7 little hill sprints up the zig zag track, then a bit of a jog around, bit of a stand around listening to Maj talking about running downhill, then a jog back. Intervals were short but hard.
