Evening not the Parkville Parkrun with Jayne.

Ran way faster than I had planned, mostly because Jayne took off like a shot. Also did 30s efforts ever 2'30, but by the end they probably weren't that much quicker than the normal pace.

Wanted to get out of town so took the bus to the 'Rat Saturday arvo.

Sunday morning long run around Creswick from St Georges Lake. Dave and I dragged each other round 80 mins. Wasn't toooo hot out early, but our brilliant idea of combining the run with a post-run swim proved excellent.

Felt ok at times and a bit slow at times. Little bit slower than the last few weeks but not fussed as it was hot and had a few hills.

Strava record (ok, so 1/3) for a segment called 'halfass' :)

Morning roll. Apparently my 70 min ride doesn't take 70 mins (time from Strava today, whereas usually I just guess from my watch and subtract a bit for traffic lights). Have to ride further next time.

Kathmandu training (again with coach Lucy).

Second hills session for the week felt surprisingly better than the first. Good little loop below the teardrop with downhill (which I tried to go hard on - improving downhill confidence and speed being one of my 2018 goals), flattish and then uphill efforts.

Nice evening for it! Also met Alice McNamara, stair climbing queen, who gave me a tip off of an accessible building in the city.

Carlton Gardens Sprint o training.

Sufficiently close to work :) Was making some big navigation errors (route choice around out of bounds, crossing roundabout and going up completely the wrong street, heading to controls out of order) which was a bit silly.

Wasn't running super fast but didn't feel too bad.

Hill intervals behind the lake. 8 total, 4 each way behind the naked man.

Legs had no zip in them and struggled to get them up the hills.

Right knee a little twingy at times, and left shin was a bit sore at the start.

Edgars east side, all the way up to Edwardes Lake. Garmin had a little freak out so when I was doing laps of the park at the end to make up 14km, I hadn't actually done 14km at all :( Oh well.

Another solid long run :)

Just rollin'. Up the creek, Ring Rd and back via the Upfield. Did put in efforts along the Ring Rd path and racing a train through the cemetery (I lost despite a big head start).

When you work in climate change adaptation, you don't want to be the person collapsing of heatstroke because they went out running when it was 39oC.

Short jog around the Yarra trails with not one but two Two Bays winners (should have gone to o training last night and I'd almost have the whole set). Just cruised so I didn't melt.

Rode home up the creek and stopped to watch a motor-paced race at the velodrome on the way home. Don't think they were riding for sheep stations as some guy rocked up late and only did a lap before joining in on the final sprint.

Sunday evening long run.

Not sure where that came from, but was feeling surprisingly good. Accidentally took my own advice to Jayne of starting fast and keeping going - not sure that's a kosher long run technique. Got stuck on the west side of Edgars Creek as I'd forgotten how much rain we had yesterday - my crossing points were all well under water. Stomach was a bit unhappy from about 9-11km.

Pretty stoked to still finish the run feeling strong!

Or it would have been the Parkville Parkrun if we'd done it 4 hours earlier. Stomach was feeling very unhappy so wasn't keen to race (although it felt less bad when running:) ) so pushed Jayne around to a good time (before the start: "I don't feel like I can go under 25 today"). Yelled at some tourists (Tamsin and Krystal).

Colour map! Route might have been ok if I hadn't spent 500m going round in a circle in the Polytech. Nice that it was mostly in the park (and spending more time in the park was one of my deciding factors for which controls to get.

Very hot! Lots of sweat in my eyes, and got in trouble from Jayne for entering us in A course.

Slow and steady after work ride.

Up the creek to Jukes Rd, across to Gowrie and back into the headwind down the Upfield. The sunflower trolleys have made it at least as far as Fawkner!

Knee feeling much better the last 2 days (although a little tweaky on the bike tonight). Maybe just taking it easy has helped, or maybe it's the voltaren in glad wrap combo that's done the trick.

Took Tamsin's road bike out for a spin. Quite warm, but it was glorious riding along the High Plains Rd. Really enjoyed it :)

Went out to just past Langfords then doubled back to watch the boys running through on their way from Bogong to Hotham, and see Jayne off to Hotham. Was kind of a little bit jealous not to be running - goal for next year? Then headed out to Cope Hut to see Steve and Jayne go through, before heading back into the village.

MTB at Falls.

Jayne kindly lent me her bike so took it out for a spin as my knee was still unhappy (instead of my planned favourite run to Wishing Well and Frying Pan Spur).

Did the short circuit (which I found a bit hard) and another loop that I quite enjoyed (so I did it twice). Also checked out the hawkweed monitoring area. Apparently it has spread a lot - clearly I didn't do a very good eradication job when I was up there :(

Starting the year off right!

Hiking out from Hotham with Dad. Set up camp at Fed Hut after walking from Diamantina Hut out the Razorback. Went for a post-dinner run up to the summit for Feathertop to watch the sunset and check out the supermoon. Was very concerned I was going to taste my absolutely failed camping dinner, but didn't :)
