Riding 1:30:00 [3]

Rode out to St Albans to check out map for event I'm organising. Forgot to take map. Moonee Ponds Creek, Ring Road path, powerline easement.

Got very lost/disoriented on the way there by junctions on the Ring Road - had a little detour into Gowanbrae because I have no sense of direction. Luckily I'd taken a photo of my Melways before I left. Stood on Keilor Park Drive for a while turning my camera around trying to make things fit.

Train into the city afterwards and rode home from there.

7 PM

Running 20:30 [3] 3.36 km (6:06 / km) +19m 5:56 / km

Neighbourhood plod.

Found:
- $2
- 2 plums
- a person on a Segway

Legs a bit sore. The back of my knee (which got worse after I went to the physio on 11 Jan) was a bit sore all day sitting at home with my legs crossed. Shins also a bit sore at times :(

Took my Freiburg sprint map and looked at a few random legs.

Running 35:00 [3]

Merri Creek run with CB1 and JS1. Legs were feeling pretty slow. Had some useful discussion about sprint orienteering.

Wednesday Jan 27, 2016 #

Core strength/stretching 10:00 [1]

Foam rolling and strength.

Tuesday Jan 26, 2016 #

Orienteering 24:38 [4] 3.8 km (6:29 / km)

Sprint Canberra, ANU South

Had my better races in the mornings. A couple of little confusions, but generally happy. And glad not to have to run again in the afternoon!

Monday Jan 25, 2016 #

Orienteering 24:07 [4] 3.6 km (6:42 / km)

Sprint Canberra, ANU North

Tired sore legs. Navigated pretty well (although got caught out at 7 with everyone else and found 14 on the way to 11 leaving me stuck behind an unmarked hedge). Saw the most rabbits I've ever seen orienteering (I was orienteering, they were just eating grass).
8 AM

Orienteering 25:56 [4] 3.6 km (7:12 / km) +65m 6:36 / km

Sprint Canberra, sprint relay Mt Stromlo

I like a good forest sprint :) Got a bit concerned at the start by the fact that noone else was heading to my first control, but they were all just wrong. Took a lot of out and about routes trying to avoid prickly gullies - some were worth it timewise, others maybe not. Found the single track hard to spot on the map, but generally happy with the navigation.

Running 14:15 [4] 3.0 km (4:45 / km)

Lazy Torso challenge.

3k time trial, but with clue descriptions and punching and changing direction. Only 46s slower then the normal time trial the day before, which is apparently good, but probably shows how poorly done the time trial was.
5 PM

Orienteering 20:29 [4] 2.47 km (8:17 / km) +30m 7:49 / km

Sprint Canberra, Radford College

Found the navigation really complex, and got completely baffled on the hill leg by not twigging that I had to exit the control the same way I went in. Otherwise ok.

Saturday Jan 23, 2016 #

Orienteering 21:49 [4] 3.6 km (6:04 / km)

Sprint Canberra, CIT.

Legs were pretty tired after the morning session (which would become a theme for the weekend). Navigated ok (but felt like I was slow on the navigating, also a theme for the weekend), except for going through the garden bed out of the spectator control.
9 AM

Running 13:29 [4] 3.06 km (4:24 / km)

3k track time trial.

Today I learnt about pacing. The pace was sooo slow at the start and noone was moving - I got fed up and went to the front. Felt good for the first 2 laps, then slowly started dying and almost the entire field went through me. Was fun while it lasted.

Km splits (from Garmin, not quite accurate)
3.58, 4.28, 4.41

Running 20:00 [3]

A slow plod remembering what this running thing is all about.

Training fail last week - had planned to go out Tuesday, but was on standby Wednesday, so thought I'd better get my gear together. At work until 8pm on standby Wednesday, so no training. Deployed 7am Thursday. Ended up being on night shift so spent all the daylight hours sleeping.

Sunday Jan 10, 2016 #

Running 38:30 [3]

Run along the St Kilda foreshore with CB1. Neither of us were feeling that spritely, especially when we made things difficult for ourselves running on the sand. Getting pretty warm out.

Riding 1:30:00 [3] 30.0 km (3:00 / km)

Breaking with tradition and logging a ride (only because I'm going out tonight as well). To St Kilda and back.

Saturday Jan 9, 2016 #

Riding 1:50:00 [3]

Arvo cruise with CB1 and JS1. Home to Clare's, then across to Darebin Creek, up the creek to McMahon Rd, across to the Merri and home for an icy pole. I don't think we were going fast enough for Clare.

Thursday Jan 7, 2016 #

6 PM

Running 32:16 intensity: (25:16 @3) + (7:00 @4) 5.28 km (6:07 / km) +8m 6:04 / km

CB training. Met CB1 at the swing bridge and headed down the creek to CERES and back.

Did 7 x 1min, 1 min off (I'd only planned to do 5 but apparently that wasn't enough for Clare).

Also did some strides and drills towards the end. I was a bit unco.

Wednesday Jan 6, 2016 #

Core strength/stretching 20:00 [1]

Tuesday Jan 5, 2016 #

Street O 45:00 [3] 7.7 km (5:51 / km)

North Melbourne.

Entered B course then got made to change to A by Jayne. Luckily it wasn't as far as advertised. We took all the same route choices except to our 2nd control (Jayne's was better). Perfect evening. Legs got a bit tired.

Sunday Jan 3, 2016 #

9 AM

Running 1:01:20 [3] 9.51 km (6:27 / km) +23m 6:23 / km

Long run. Took the train to Gowrie and ran home via Jukes Rd > Merri Crk > Pentridge.

Ran with Clare and Rob's Camelbak testing it out, but was actually glad of the water as there wasn't much shade at the start of the run.

Just plodded along at a pretty constant speed. Knees were a bit sore, especially running on a slope near the end. Tried to keep on the grass as much as possible.

Found some very fresh smelling public toilets in Fawkner.

My lack of awareness of time meant I had to run hard to the station to get the train - found I can still go faster when I need to :)

Running 20:00 [3]

At max speed ie. very slow.
