Note

Life getting in the way of training.

Although I did ride home from work via Cantebury. Saw a ton of posh private schools. Didn't see another cyclist on the way home until I was almost back in the Peoples Republic of Brunswick.

Orienteering 1:23:41 [3] 7.0 km (11:57 / km)

I've got just under a week to convince myself that I can orienteer.

Wouldn't mind looking at splits, but to rub salt into a wound they only go down to 11th place.

EDIT: splits now fixed. I think I may have run off the map. Also have a very sore knee; same pain as at Four Peaks.

Riding 25:00 [3]

Decided to get out of my pyjamas after 2 days. Just a short roll up Burns St and back. Came through Walter Rd, because the purple peril likes dirt.

Tuesday Dec 23, 2014 #

Running 15:00 [2]

Running 28:48 [4]

Another mixed bag of Walmer St hills with Pete. Including some more downhill running. Going to be primed for Tassie.

Legs feel like they don't have much strength in them, until there were some sprinting boys to race up the hill.

Running 1:10:00 [3]

Lap of the Spring Gully Res. Left it a bit late so it was warmer than I would have liked. A bit dry out in the Bendigo bush (except for where water was going into/out of the res)!

Was running ok, although the bit back along the fence from Kendall St seemed to go on a while.

Running 15:00 [2]

Warm up/down.

Running 24:00 [4]

Got pushed out the door at work by Pete and made to go and do some hill intervals. Which were really hard work. A mixed bag of intervals up Walmer St, including longer and shorter ones, and a little bit of downhill running too.

Core strength/stretching 15:00 [1]

Completely lacking motivation and energy!

My housemate came home when I was half way through and I lost track of what I was doing. I might end up with one buff side.

Sunday Dec 14, 2014 #

Running 43:18 [3] 6.75 km (6:25 / km)

Cruisy jog around Yarra Bend with Jayne. Neither of us were feeling that enthused (and I was underprepared for the sun). My legs didn't want to go any quicker.

Probably time I gave up orienteering and took up mini-golf. Best to know where your strengths lie.

Wednesday Dec 10, 2014 #

Riding 1:50:00 [3]

2 early morning laps of the Boulevard with Claire B. Lots of people out, mostly of the male variety.

I was feeling fairly strong on the bike, although Claire definitely wasn't going full tilt.

Running 24:00 [3]

Took my helmet and credit card for a run to pick up my bike from the mechanics. Was feeling a bit lightheaded - possibly as a consequence of winning the blood pressure challenge with my housemate. I think I need a steak.

Core strength/stretching 15:00 [1]

Sunday Dec 7, 2014 #

Running 1:05:00 [3]

Plod around the 'Burg with a little bit of West Preston thrown in.

Had to detour at one stage as the track was flooded - if I get some kind of disease/skin condition in the next few days I'm blaming the stormwater drain I detoured up.

Read the Oceania long map from last year. I struggled to read it at times (even though it was basically spur-gully) and caught myself walking. Bad Clare.

Calves very tight. Thought the run might help loosen them up, but it definitely didn't.

Running 15:00 [2]

Pretty abridged warm up as I was running late - traffic light karma: my amber gambling didn't pay off when the lights into Albert Park wouldn't change for me.

Warm down with Rob.

Running 20:47 [5] 5.0 km (4:09 / km)

Realised I didn't have my barcode when I got to the other side of the city, so an unofficial Parkrun. Despite that, I had an amazing support crew of Bakers! Thanks guys :)

The aim was for Rob to pace me to 20:20, which was possibly a bit ambitious given my recent training. Felt ok for about the first 7 mins, and was struggling after that. There was grunting and groaning.

2s over my PB, but I have a long list of excuses!

Orienteering 13:13 [4]

Control pick at VU, Footscray. Got stuck in the car park, then ran through a garden bed. Whoops.

Orienteering 6:35 [4]

Hill interval course.

Orienteering 7:45 [4]

Route choice challenge.

Running 20:00 [2]

Warm up/down with the crew.

Note

Not such a cruisy day! Did a drive at night until 11pm... No time for training :(

Tuesday Dec 2, 2014 #

Running 1:11:00 [3]

Cruisy day again.

Ran from Lyrebird Park to Kurth Kiln along the road, then cut through the bush a bit on the way back. Found a few hills and didn't feel that strong, especially at the start! Felt a bit hard to get my breath. The dead snake that I saw on the way down seemed to have revived itself on the way back.

Core strength/stretching 15:00 [1]

Finally got around to doing my core again!

Apparently the secret is being on 4WD training and not having to cook/get to work.
