Orienteering 15:00 [3]

Yay, street o stress is over :) Also didn't realise quite how short I'd made the sprintervals. But planning any more was beyond my level of commitment! Thanks to CB1 for taking over at the finish to let me have a run.

6'42" for the super short one.

8'19" for the short one. Got pulled off line near the marsh/lakes at one stage.

Bam. Motivation level before running: somewhere between zero and low.

But smashed a Mona fartlek along the creek - got about 70-80m further than my previous best on the way out, AND made it back with 15s to spare.

Hopefully I can get in some more decent training before Tassie - I do have a few work trips coming up though. Bring it on.

Riding 20:00 [2]

Kind of orienteering/kind of riding.

Cruised around my sites for street o on Thursday. I hope expectations aren't too high. Now trying to calculate distances for optimum route - except I have no idea what the optimum routes are...

Took about 50 mins to get around them all. Much drier riding this evening (and sunny) compared to in the downpour this morning.

Sprint into Spring 2, Ruffey Lake Park.

Not so far off the pace this week :) Still didn't get 60% on CB1 though...

I really need to focus on un-/crossable cliffs - went around one this week that was fine to go up (lost about 15s). Haven't quite got the pace back in my legs, especially on the hills, but getting there. Went hard on the polka dot leg, but Lanita obviously went harder! Bright will either make or break me...

Glutes and hip flexors pretty tight from Tuesday still.

In Geelong last night but was really tired and didn't make it out for a run.

The Danes set a couple of cool little exercises at Darebin Parklands. Wasn't running super fast, but it was quite enjoyable.

Running (pack hike - walking) 43:31 [3] 4.83 km (9:01 / km)

After last year I was a bit afraid of the pack hike test for fire fitness. Made it through, 7s quicker than last year. I find it such a struggle though - my legs just don't move any quicker. Walked with a backpack this year and didn't get blisters like last year (although could feel a hot spot in the last 2 laps) but still pretty uncomfortable.

Club Relays. Choke 'em Gully.

Ben brought our team in in front of the A team, then I proceeded to give up any advantage.

Need to find where my running mojo is hiding. Today wasn't a good day to be struggling, thanks to the endless hills and the heat. Slogged it out, and beat Dave on a split. Only ran off the map once, but that was intentional (although I did lose track of how far along I was). Tested Jim's patience waiting for me.

Sprint into Spring race 1. Newport Lakes.

That next gear is still missing! It's just an effort to get any pace going. Also lost lots of time on both the controls that involved cliffs - tried to bail going down the steep slope on 6, realised there wasn't another way down and kind of climbed down the edge of the cliff. Then climbed up the impassable cliff to 11, realised and went down again, climbed halfway up a different impassable bit, went down again, then finally found the rather obvious track. Grrrr. Stupid.

Massively lost round 1 of the CB challenge - why did I ever agree to give CB1 a 60% handicap??

I think my brain and legs are both still in WA. I may have to get them couriered across.

Riding 1:50:00 [3]

Don't usually log random biking to various places, but given I haven't done a heap of training this week, here goes.

About 50 mins to get there. Had a beaut tailwind/downhill combo on the way there, and lucked out getting through Kensington (usually I end up popping out somewhere unexpected).

About 1 hr home. Saw a steam train at Newport.

Warm up around the park, and did some of the control picking exercise as a warm down.

CB1 set some awesome sprint training on Princes Hill. 2 mass start loops (with gaffling!), mostly around the houses/laneways with a little bit in the park.

Maybe not running for a week was a bad idea because my legs were pretty tired - just didn't have any pace in them! Oh well, I'm sure it's in there somewhere still...

Not so confident for the CB challenge now.

Up and down the MTB tracks at Pemberton. Luckily no mountain bikers out. Got stuck on one called Relentless Blue on the way down and it just went round and round and got me all disoriented.

Super duper scenic run in the Porongurups. Beautiful granite outcrop, a bit like Kooyoora. Really really really enjoyed it. Pretty stop-start run to take lots of photos of the view and moss mat vegetation communities, and to walk up a big hill to Devil's Slide.

Aus relay champs, Moondyne Road, 3rd

And the outcome of Aus Champs week is that I perform better in the rain. Was really unenthused before racing though!

It was a real slog out there. Even the yellow wasn't easy running because of long grass and/or hidden rocks. Was a bit scrappy on 1 and 2, but clean through the rest of it except for 8 (when I caught a glimpse of Anna, but I hadn't found the control yet).

Pretty excited running along the fence to 7 to hear Toph announce that the Vic boys had come in first Aussie team :)

Aus long champs, Warranine Brook, 9th

I was not a happy camper after this race! Probably not as bad as I first thought in hindsight (although Lizzie did catch 14 mins by number 9).

Lost time on 3 - I got really close but then headed off east because I thought I could see the dam. Pushed it up the hill to 8, then proceeded to hit the track and do a 180.

Really hit the wall on the way to 14 and got a bit demoralised as more people went past me. Managed to keep Anna in sight for almost 3 legs, which got me close enough to the finish. Third fastest split on the uphill leg to the last control.

I think I got a bit too much sun - I struggled to get a powerade down on the way home without feeling queasy and wasn't feeling great in the evening.
