Orienteering 58:11 [3] 6.7 km (8:41 / km)

Bendigo local at Sedgwick.

Legs didn't have it in them today. Got smashed by TvG - just can't beat him in the spur gully. Also got confused on 2-3 thinking I was going from 12. I blame too much night biking last night, and someone moving house at 3am (as in, moving their house, not just the contents). The neighbourhood is being demolished around us - I hope our landlord doesn't get any ideas.

Running 24:00 [4]

MFR Thursday sesh. Longer intervals tonight of ~6 mins with a mix of easy gravel path, track, hill, road.

Legs felt really tired in the warm up, but got going during the intervals. Legs pretty tired again by the end!

Running 31:00 [2]

10' warm up
8' recovery downhill between reps
13' warm down

Rob made a good point about riding home on an empty stomach - absolutely knackered by the time I got home! Took bang on 40 mins.

Riding 2:00:00 [3]

Biking with Baker and Boulange (and Kez) :) I don't reckon these kind of sessions were designed to be done before work.

30' Coburg > Boulevard. 2 x laps of the Boulevard. Then in to work. Died a fair bit on the 2nd lap. Baker was powering along. Bizarre riding in the dark with the hardcore cyclists - nicer once it got light. First time I've done the Boulevard on a road bike, was easier on the purple peril, and would probably be easier still with a normal rear cassette.

Planned this week to be an easier week - I wouldn't class that as easy, but low stress on the leg. Spent the day eating.

Running 37:00 [3]

Creek run (sth from Harding). Passed on aths training as I feel like I need an easier week. And I'm not sure I could cope with an early morning bike with the Cla(i)re Bs of this world after aths.

Unco on the non-concrete side of the creek - it's about a year since I fell over there in the dark, and must be a long time since I once did intervals there without a torch. Might be time to invest in some Ayups.

Steady run, knees felt a bit sore at the start, and inside right shin/calf a bit towards the end. Time to book in a physio to find out my weaknesses.

Note

Just entered Aus Champs (and Oceania). Sooo freaking excited about the wildflowers in Western Australia!!!

Orienteering 46:58 [4] 4.9 km (9:35 / km)

State League at Chewton Diggings.
Must have blown out the cobwebs yesterday, because luckily this was much better :) Got lucky on a few, but had learnt to take safe routes across the big gullies yesterday, which was working for me today. Got done by Tim Hatley, who took the time out of me on the long leg - not having a good record with them lately! Although I lost a little bit of time on the approach into 7. Raced Lanita some of the way back (until she dropped me) which kept me honest.

Orienteering 23:50 [3] 2.5 km (9:32 / km)

Waz's relay training at Chewton Diggings.
Navigating cleanly, and tried to force myself not to be lazy and just go to where I knew the controls were. Running around Simon and Peter at the end.

Note

The purple peril is back in town and ready to go riding with Clare B1 (and Claire B3?). Just lost a foot of bedroom space though, as there's nowhere to lock him outside.

Orienteering 1:05:00 [3]

Training at Spring Gully Diggings. 4x 12min-ish o intervals.
Felt like I was orienteering like a real muppet, although in hindsight most controls were ok. Struggled a lot with the green on the ground being more extensive than on the map - been a good season for gorse, blackberries and Chinese broom. Took aaages on the 3rd interval, where it just seemed to take forever to get to the later few controls. Did ok on the last technical one as I made myself take it easier.
Not feeling quick either.

Running 21:00 [3]

Warm up/down.

Running 26:00 [3]

MFR Thursday night intervals. From Studley Park boathouse.
10x terrain loop (but on tracks). Ran the hill and top path hard, recovered on the downhill and first part. Didn't quite feel confident pushing at the start in the dark, but was ok to go on the hill.

Wednesday May 21, 2014 #

Running 30:00 [3]

Cruise around Hastings. Quads were feeling pretty tired. Struggle. Last work trip for a while.

Tuesday May 20, 2014 #

Running 35:00 [3]

Warm up, drills, warm down.

Running 24:00 [3]

The legs still felt like they had 17k on them. Didn't pull up sore from the weekend though (other than a little bit of stiffness Sunday) which is a win.

Did 4 laps Indian file - I scored it in the slow group which was probably what I needed but pretty slow.

2 sets of 200m relays with a partner for 8 mins each.

Riding 30:00 [3]

Riding home from the station wouldn't normally be logged as training, but then, I don't normally orienteer for 2 hours the day before.

Riding 20:00 [3]

Rode to o. The masses decided afterwards that I wasn't capable of making it home again so Dave gave me a lift.

Orienteering 2:24:35 [3] 17.1 km (8:27 / km)

Kangaroo Gully 1996 Vic Champs M21E. Where 'E' stands for 'epic'. I think that's the furthest I've ever run!

Took off with Clare B alternating navigating - we took off way too quick and both paid for it later on! Interesting seeing her route choices compared to what I would have done - I think I'm a bit afraid of hills. I also learnt that I need to be more disciplined reading ahead so I don't get caught out. I made a couple of little errors and wasn't really paying enough attention at times when Clare was navigating, but we did pretty well. Clare made me go by myself after 17, and I was able to keep going smoothly to the finish.

Pretty stoked to finish and still be feeling relatively ok (although pretty tired on Sunday). Well done Laurina, and thanks for the company and motivation, Clare!

Thursday May 15, 2014 #

Note

Feeling a bit crook, tired and lazy aka tapering for the 17k challenge on Saturday.

Tuesday May 13, 2014 #

Running 19:00 [3]

Warm up/down.

Running 20:10 [3]

Mona hitout through the park in Geelong and along the foreshore. Nothing spesh.

Sunday May 11, 2014 #

Riding 1:00:00 [3]

Sat on the bike for an hour and rolled up Merri Creek, west along the Ring Road and back my old route home from work.

Eurovision parties are way better when you don't have a sprained ankle!

Running race 21:08 [3] 5.0 km (4:14 / km)

Parkrun at Albert Park Lake with Clare B1 (and Rob, but only saw him because it was an out and back course due to a regatta). I wore my magic pants.

Raced off at the start - I think I must have still had a bit of anger in me from the ride down where I was cursing drivers, trams, rivers on Sydney Rd, rain, potholes and puddles.

Felt like I slowed a lot from half way, although Clare B1 seemed to think I was going ok for a bit longer. Had no speed left at the end, but just had to keep going to stay in front. Such fierce/good competition!

Much quicker than the last time for both of us!

Running 10:00 [3]

Didn't really have time for a warm up as I was running late. Warm down with Baker x 2 afterwards. Legs didn't enjoy the ride home.

Thursday May 8, 2014 #

Running 35:00 [3]

Warm up, drills, warm down.

Running 23:00 [3]

4 laps x running bends hard, float on straights.

2 x 1 lap float, 1 lap hard.

4 laps x 50m slow jog, 150m hard.

Legs were feeling fresh enough and felt ok. Last few weeks I feel like my lower back/glutes (?) are a bit weak.

Riding 30:00 [3]

Delivering mail so Aus Post doesn't have to. Got someone's readdressed mail in our letterbox, so dropped it off in Pascoe Vale and then checked out my old house.

Decided on the way home that it was safer to cross Munro St at the roundabout near the shops. Turns out it's not, as someone rear ended me as I was at the front of the queue. Not hard, so just stopped to check my wheel wasn't buckled (it wasn't) and kept going. She looked pretty sorry. About 20m away from a police car who'd pulled someone over.

Tuesday May 6, 2014 #

Running 25:00 [3]

Warm up/down.

Running 20:00 [3]

Mona fartlek along a creek in Caroline Springs. Wasn't doing very well of keeping track of time and was a bit out on a few. Legs weren't feeling quick and struggled when I was off the path (especially as it was getting dark on the way back).

Sunday May 4, 2014 #

Running 1:05:00 [3]

Left it a bit late to head out for a run after getting back from Geelong. Up Merri Creek/Edwards Creek. Saw lots of rabbits. Loosened up a bit as I went along, but lower back felt a bit sore/weird.

Running 30:00 [3]

Warm up/down/drills.

Running 25:00 [3]

Hard core cross country training at aths tonight. Yep, on the grass in the centre of the track.

Did a u-shaped loop, then a short recovery jog on the track x 3, break, then x 3 again.

3 laps of increasing pace to finish.
