Orienteering 2:18:05 [3] 7.2 km (19:11 / km)

Don't know whether it's worth writing anything about today. Another long run like in NZ, where nothing was going my way. Walked the rest from about number 10. Very disappointed.

Orienteering 39:48 [3] 4.6 km (8:39 / km)

Couldn't quite match Toph's effort on home terrain. Didn't recognise anything of the res until I went out collecting controls and found the Mona fartlek track. Would like to be just a couple of minutes quicker. Which doesn't sound too hard but seems to be.
Lost a little bit of time on 5 and 6. Mace caught me near 11 and got past me at 16. Lost her between 19 and 20.
Maybe I need to train more and orienteer more.

Event: Easter 2013

Orienteering 21:00 [3]

Fairly standard run - nothing special and nothing terrible. Took ages to find the start control on the map. Lost a fair bit of time on 8 according to the splits. I don't really know how. Almost overran 10. Legs felt fresh warming up but not so fresh running. Didn't quite live up to my claims about my previous experience with Easter in Bendigo.

Kayaking (dragon boat) 35:00 [3]

Felt fairly hard tonight.

Core strength/stretching 8:00 [3]

I can't really do push ups or that kind of situps.

Running 40:00 [3]

Warm up, drills, 2 laps, warm down.

Running 20:00 [3] 4.13 km (4:51 / km)

2 x 10' of 70 m tempo, 30 m recovery.

2nd set felt better than the first, and got 70 m extra.

Riding 15:00 [3]

Running 40:00 [3]

Struggle town. Legs felt really dead. Must have overdone it yesterday. Not sure how much dragon boating uses your legs though... Took along a map to read.

Kayaking (dragon boat) 1:34:00 [3] 15.5 km (6:04 / km)

Epic Saturday morning long paddle from Docklands up to Herring Island. Really nice to get on the river. Swapped sides every 15 mins. Tested out the proper style of stroke and it felt a lot easier, and my forearms were less sore :) Struggled a bit in the last 30 mins.

Core strength/stretching 9:00 [3]

Hurties.

Kayaking (dragon boat) 35:00 [3]

Didn't feel like we did as much tonight, which was fine by me! Got some tips afterwards on how to actually paddle properly.

Riding 15:00 [3]

Running 40:00 [3]

Long warm up, drills, run throughs, warm down.

Running 20:00 [3] 4.0 km (5:00 / km)

300m, 200m float, 300m x 3
150m, 100m float, 150m x 4

Was feeling pretty bad and farting and burping a lot. Maybe my felafel roll at lunchtime?

Also found out why the police were at training the other week: apparently someone had been going to training continually and not paying their membership fees. Whoops. Lucky I didn't get a ride home in the back of the divvy van!

Riding 1:05:00 [3]

Riding to and from Yarra Bend.

Running 50:00 [3]

Did my favourite loop from a few years ago from the Pipe Bridge. Training for the blodslitet. The bats were louder than the F1. Felt good at the start, then had a few stitchy/stomach pains in the last 15 mins. Hardened up and kept going. Luckily there was some kind of festival at the Pipe Bridge so I used my emergency $5 to get a bready/cakey thing and munched it on the way home.

Running 30:00 [3]

In between me telling my housemate I was going for a run and getting out the door it started raining pretty heavily. Had almost stopped by the time I got back. Had to stop during the run when someone who was cleaning out their car in a side street asked me for advice on their knee pain.

Running 37:30 [3]

To the creek, down the creek to Moreland Rd, up the creek and home. Had planned to go to aths training tonight but was feeling rubbish at work so piked. Saw Todd out running.

Core strength/stretching 8:00 [3]

Discovered a new type of hurt.

Kayaking (dragon boat) 30:00 [3]

2 x 200m races, 2 x 500m races. Beat the Dragon Masters in the first 500m (the only time we raced anyone). They're masters because they're old, not because they're awesome.

My left ankle feels sore. It started hurting on the bike to Docklands tonight and I don't know why.

Orienteering (Long) 1:38:17 [3] 9.3 km (10:34 / km)

Wasn't too clean at the start. Messy on 1 and 3, and ran off into the green at 8 without a plan. Went the wrong way around some green at 10 too. Map 2: Struggled with 2 and 3 near the start again (didn't read descriptions for 3 and was looking at the tree instead of embankment). Made an error on the long leg and had planned to go up the hill over the train line - got to the back of Government House and realised I could go up the gully instead and save mountains of climb so cut across. Was pretty slow in the rocks and had to flip the map to relocate when I found 153 instead of 142.
Map 3: Section was ok, and nice to have a downhill finish. Caught back up to Jenny on the long leg back, but never got in front as she powered down the track. Then I missed 7 by a few metres and went right instead of left and she got me by a minute in the end. Almost ran past 10, but turned back much to David's disappointment.
Nowhere near as far back as I was in the long mass start last year, which is good. The field was much less spread out this time. Very impressed by the junior girls, who all put in a big effort to finish.

Event: Adelaide NOL

Orienteering (Sprint quali) 17:48 [3] 2.2 km (8:05 / km)

So many stairs and so much humidity! Ran quite hard hoping to qualify, and just scraped through in 6th in the faster heat. Navigated quite well (only got a little bushed on the way to 3) and didn't have the control on the multistorey which caused some confusion on other courses. Spent a little too much juice given there was another race to go...

Orienteering (Sprint final) 20:41 [3] 2.5 km (8:16 / km)

Woo last place in 21E! Although I did run some extra. Got to the first control to find Mary confused as the numbers didn't match. Then checked the course once I found that the 2nd control was wrong too. Made the mistake of not running back the same way we'd come, and missed seeing Rachel and Nicola - my aim at the time was to get back as quickly as possible and wasn't quite thinking clearly!

Hadn't been feeling that good before the start - feeling the heat and a bit of a headache. Got going again and my legs didn't have much zip. Didn't really make any mistakes, but didn't have enough left in the tank.

Core strength/stretching 12:00 [3]

Hard core

Kayaking (dragon boat) 40:00 [3]

Fairly hard paddle. Went from Etihad to the Bolte Bridge with a milk crate hanging off the back of the boat. Pretty hard work. I was really struggling at the start but then the coach gave me his super light paddle.

Riding 20:00 [3]

Running 30:00 [3]

Drills, run throughs, warm up, warm down, run throughs, warm down.

Running 10:00 [3]

It's not about how you train, just where. And the rest is psychological.

We went out into the park for their 'cross country' loop today - about 450m on grass. I'd been feeling very sleepy at work and almost nodded off before lunchtime. Was really slow in the warm up. Then killed it on the intervals. Matched it with some of the blokes. Not sure whether I was just going harder than usual because it was more enjoyable than track, or whether I was relatively quicker because I run in terrain.

2'13, 2'08, 2'03, 1'57, 1'51

First 3 felt pretty cruisy, the last 2 were a bit harder.

Sunday Mar 3, 2013 #

Riding 22:00 [3]

Cruise up to the aths track and back.

Running 51:00 [3]

Bit of a mish mash run around Edgars Creek from the aths track. Did a few hill intervals on Rabbit Hill (only saw one). A fair bit of up and back and looping around. Stopped to pull out a serrated tussock, then found a heap more and gave up. Attempt at acclimatisation for next weekend.

Running 25:00 [3]

Had planned to go to dragon boating in the morning, but decided sleep was more important. I've been really hitting the wall in the afternoon at work, except now I can't snooze in the ute at lunchtime like I could last year. Or the time when I was napping under a tree and everyone just got back to work without telling me.

Slow suburban slog. Legs really weren't feeling it at the start, but got slightly better. Took the Splash Planet map for some sprint map reading training.
