Orienteering (sprint) 32:50 [3] *** 4.7 km (6:59 / km)

1st exercise at Maldon. Was going quite well at the start, but lost a bit of focus at the end as I got tired and slowed down. 3rd last control didn't make much sense, didn't look like I was expecting.

Orienteering 25:32 [2] 2.0 km (12:46 / km)

Didn't do so well on this one, tried to go without compass but had no idea what was going on. Spent a while looking too low for the 3rd control.

Orienteering 15:33 [3] 2.0 km (7:47 / km)

2nd loop, had a break after the 1st. Went a bit better on this one, used the compass again, but still mucked up the 1st control.

Beautiful day for o!

Note

Watched Moses play water polo...

Running warm up/down 15:00 [2]

A bit of running around the intercollege aths. Also did the 4x400 relay, but absolutely died at about 200m and got passed by 2 people in the home straight.

Running race 2:44 [4] 0.8 km (3:25 / km)

Race at the intercollege aths. 1'15" first lap, second in 1'29". Talk about positive splits!

Running warm up/down 21:30 [3]

10'30 warm up, 11' warm down

Running intervals (Clara/Mona fartlek) 20:01 [4] 4.2 km (4:46 / km)

Haha...looks like I've peaked too early :-)

2', 90",90", 60" 60" 45" 45" 30" 30" 15" 15" and equal recovery

Got further than last week (don't know exactly how much by, because I accidently ran a bit extra in the zoo car park already), but was 1 second late back. Poor form! Legs were feeling ok and breathing better. Pretty happy with the session. Hopefully legs will recover by Easter!!!

Riding 1:19:00 [3] 25.5 km (3:06 / km)

Rode along Merri Crk to velodrome with a few surges. Still finding it a bit hard to breathe when going hard, but feeling heaps better. Rode back to Royal Park for a run, then home. Legs were so tired when I first got back on the bike.

Running hills (Royal Park) 5:00 [4] 1.25 km (4:00 / km)

Did some hills in Royal Park after about 55-60 mins of riding. Didn't feel that flash, not much energy in legs and a bit hard to breathe. Tried to push harder on the last one.
5x1min hills

Running warm up/down 10:00 [2] 1.25 km (8:00 / km)

Jogging and a little bit of walking at the between ints

Sunday Mar 25, 2007 #

Riding warm up/down 51:00 [3] 15.6 km (3:16 / km)

Rode to the pipe bridge, legs felt crap on the way and just couldn't push it at all.
Felt heaps better on the way back.

Running (~MFR terrain loop) 46:18 [3] **

Clearly, I should have stayed in bed today:
1. Accidently woke up at 7 because noone told me daylight savings ended
2. Network still down, so couldn't print map of terrain loop. Had to wait until Bailleau opened to go and print
3. Map was almost impossible to read
4. Broke the zip on my jersey- something flew off as I was doing it up
5. Felt like crap on warm up
6. Couldn't breathe very well and nose was running faster than I was
7. Hit my head on a tree

Never really got going for any length of time, I would always have to slow/stop to read the map, go up a hill, blow my nose. When I did get running it felt ok, especially the last downhill to the finish.

On the plus side, my bike and thermal didn't get stolen, and I didn't sustain any life threatening injuries :-)

(Didn't run the section on other side of Chandler Hwy as it wasn't on the map)

Running warm up/down 20:00 [3] 3.6 km (5:33 / km)

Have cold, was 33 degrees, thought head would explode. Felt surprisingly ok after warm up so went ahead with intervals anyway. Felt like head would explode in warm down.

Running intervals (Mona/Clara fartlek) 20:00 [4] 4.1 km (4:53 / km)

Not Mona fartlek, not Clara fartlek.
2 mins, 90s, 90s, 60, 60, 45, 45, 30, 30, 15, 15, with equal recovery.
Pretty bloody hard, found a few hills, tried not to overstride, dunno how successfully.
Made it back to start with 2s spare...how good am I ;-) (obviously should have gone out harder!!)

Distance approx from Melways + dental floss

Riding 46:00 [3] 16.2 km (2:50 / km)

Rolled around in the middle of the day. Seemed to be pretty smoggy out, eugh Melbourne. Went round Prinny and Royal Parks, down to the Comm games village and round in a few circles.

Tuesday Mar 20, 2007 #

Riding 1:17:00 [3] 26.7 km (2:53 / km)

Stopped raining thank goodness, still got a bit wet though. Suited up in tights (left knicks in Bgo), orange and green jersey and purple, blue and yellow striped thermal. Got a few funny looks. Went along the Merri Crk, did a few surges. 5 laps at the velodrome on the way up and another 5 on the way back at fairly hard pace (by my MTB standards!).

Legs been feeling fairly tired this arvo.

Running (res) 1:00:19 [3]

Ran around the outside of the res with Dave. One of my goals from the holidays, only 3 weeks late. Wasn't as hard as I was expecting, and I pulled up ok from my epic (by my standards) ride. Didn't quite beat the 37.37 record, but came close ;-) Surged on the hills out the back. Made it to the pub in about 45 mins, then went up Burns St to Creely's and home to make it up to an hour. According to David the last 5 mins were good, 1st 55 suspect though. I went fairly tentatively down the hills because it was rocky. Pretty happy as I didn't think I was up to all this training this weekend :-)

Riding (MTB) 15:00 [1]

Struggle home

Riding 2:19:00 [3] 54.0 km (2:34 / km)

Gooseneck with Dave and Jo-Anne. Really, really, really struggled at the start with hills and wind until we turned on to Axe Crk road. Felt a bit better through the middle bit but slowed down again in the last 20 mins, especially along Crook St. Made it up McIvor Hwy hill in the saddle though :-) Saw 2 geese on the way home.

Running warm up/down 17:00 [2]

Too hot...

Running intervals (I got the oval back) 16:00 [3]

Legs were feeling pretty tired for some reason and weren't going to go fast. Took Gumble map to look at during recoveries.
30s, 60s, 90s, 2 min, 90s, 60s, 30s and equal recovery.
Main difference between recoveries and efforts was probably whether I was looking at the map or not, rather than pace!!

Wednesday Mar 14, 2007 #

Note

Kind of feel like I'm getting sick...just not feeling 100% (especially during botany prac, but that may be unrelated!)

Tuesday Mar 13, 2007 #

Riding 1:24:00 [3] 25.6 km (3:17 / km)

Legs had nothing today...felt tired after 3 days running. Rest day tomorrow. Almost got attacked by a dog - probably the same one that wanted a piece of Liggo. Just cruised around the Yarra a bit. Beautiful weather for it :-) Also managed to finally put up my bike seat.

Monday Mar 12, 2007 #

Running (Monday night run) 40:00 [3] 8.0 km (5:00 / km)

My maiden Monday night run :-)
Pretty good turn-out from the Bendigo end too.

Nice run with Jas, Kirsten, Blair, Ilks, Zoe, Neil, round Prinny, across to Rathdowne St, down the centre of Rathdowne, back across to Prinny for 10 mins extra.
Legs were feeling good, bring on the res.

Thanks for an awesome tea Ilks!

Running warm up/down 10:00 [2]

Orienteering race (Bungal) 1:12:07 [3] *** 6.8 km (10:36 / km)
spiked:8/11c

Not so good today :-(
Confused in all the gullys on the way to 1. Everything seemed to fit until it didn't, but I just had to go further. A bit extreme out to the track leaving 2, and went down past 5 about 20 m and had to go back up the hill. OK then until the vague stuff, when I just lost contact and couldn't match things. Went down towards the creek to relocate for 9, and completely messed up 10. Can't work out what happened, I think I found some other pits that weren't on the map but were where I expected them to be...ended up too far left.
Had nothing left in the legs at the end. Still, nice forest for running.

Running warm up/down 15:00 [2] 1.5 km (10:00 / km)

Warm up and between intervals

Orienteering (o intervals) 15:00 [3] 2.0 km (7:30 / km)

Little Bendigo. Wasn't really concentrating at the start, just following as I was at the back. Didn't have the second course on my map. But the 3rd and 4th were much better navigationally. Really enjoyed the training...thanks Troy.

Orienteering race (Nuggetty) 58:51 [3] **** 5.8 km (10:09 / km)
spiked:16/20c

Pretty happy with the run...legs weren't feeling as tired as expected after the training (although they did start complaining towards the end). Cut a corner on tracks to 1 and wasn't quite sure where I came out, lost a bit of time being confused. Must have just missed 3 and went left instead of right, 8 probably could have gone out to powerline track, 11: shortest leg on the course and didn't really check direction coming out of 10, I guess I felt it would be easy as the circles of the 2 controls were touching, got confused around 12. All other controls good :-) Stopped to tie shoelaces twice. Loved this course too!

Thursday Mar 8, 2007 #

Riding (pretty intense) 1:31:46 [3] 30.35 km (3:01 / km)

Rather hard core ride by my standards. Capital City Trail to Merri Crk to Yarra Blvd. Went up and back the Blvd pushing on the hills (~28 mins). Then back home. Tried to push the pace for pretty much the whole time. Could have gone faster if my back brake didn't rub on the wheel and if I could actually put my seat up - it's not quite right but I can't change it because whoever changed it last time (Jim) rammed the quick release on so hard my poor weak little hands can't budge it :-(

Wednesday Mar 7, 2007 #

Riding 46:00 [3] 14.6 km (3:09 / km)

Pretty easy ride near Prinny and Royal Parks.

Tuesday Mar 6, 2007 #

Running warm up/down 25:10 [3]

10'01 warm up, 15'08 warm down. Accidently finished a bit far from home.

Running intervals 20:00 [4]

Footy training was on my oval, so just ran around Royal Park behind the zoo, hocky centre, school camp and back a bit. Have no idea how I went because it felt a bit weird. May have been miraculously fast, but I doubt it. Tried to concentrate on form and keeping legs ticking over. Started to feel it at about 16'30, lucky I was almost done.
30", 60", 90", 2', 2', 90", 60", 30" equal recovery.

Sunday Mar 4, 2007 #

Orienteering (Boundary Crk) 1:20:00 [3] *** 7.0 km (11:26 / km)
spiked:12/14c shoes: Jalas Olway

4k loop: 46 mins, 3k loop: 34 mins
Pretty disappointing run...had absolutely noooo energy to get up the hills and was reduced to a walk way too often. Felt a bit better on the 2nd loop, but k rate wasn't much different to 1st. Mis-counted gullies on the way to 2 and gained too much height and did a 180 on a track between the last control and the finish. Enough said.

Riding 34:00 [1] 10.8 km (3:09 / km)

Cruisy ride down to the old Comm Games athletes village. Crap housing estate. All the buildings look the same except they've tried to make them different by using different coloured bricks. Didn't fool me though.

Saturday Mar 3, 2007 #

Running race (VRR Tan TT) 18:53 [4] 4.0 km (4:43 / km)

Feeling sleep deprived. First time I've ever completely run the Tan (plus a bit up to some memorial to make 4k). Felt ok. Anderson St hill is overrated. Way too early in the morning. Was going to ride there, but decided it was still a bit dark so caught the slowest tram in the world.

Running warm up/down 11:07 [2]

Friday Mar 2, 2007 #

Note

Anyone know how to register for AV when you can't get the forms from anywhere?

On a depressing note, DFO Spencer St clearly lacks the bogan element of the Essendon one (well it would if I wasn't there). Didn't quite have the same ambience.

Thursday Mar 1, 2007 #

Riding 1:28:00 [3] 27.7 km (3:11 / km)

Didn't feel very fit today, nothing unusual though ;-) Went along Merri Crk and the Yarra, did a few surges and went a bit harder along the Blvd. Also went along 2 tracks of death near the river but managed not to fall in. Legs felt really tired in the last 30 mins or so.
