Orienteering 1:22:42 [3] 4.0 km (20:41 / km)
Albanian Orienteering Days. Fishta.
While there has been orienteering in Albania before, this was the first (major?) race ever. Start was a little delayed waiting for confirmation that the controls were out, and then a welcome from the mayor (?). Pretty hot day, and the course was mostly in open, with scraggly bushes.
Definitely got my value for money! At one stage resorted to the age old technique of finding a control with the number one lower than I was looking for, and assuming they were sequential along the hill (they were). Everyone seemed to thing that 47 was in the wrong spot, but I found it twice even though it wasn't on my map. It was that kind of day. I'd actually given up on finding 9 and headed to 10, but some Swiss were heading back to 9 so followed them. Something weird seemed to be going on with the map, as even relocating from a dam on the other side of the track didn't help.
Post race food was a slow food buffet at a well known restaurant at the finish, for the sum of $14. There was heaps of food on the table, then they brought out the meat. So much food.
