Running 54:00 [3]

Training had 3 purposes:
(1) map reading practice
(2) intervals
(3) feijoas
Despite doing blockies down back laneways for about 20 mins failed on the third aim. At least got 1 and 2 done though. Had planned to run on Northcote golf course, but the only ways in involve bolt cutters or going through the club house/paying. Did some ~30s intervals around an oval behind the golf course, planning routes from Cerkno Cup day 2 in the recoveries. Those maps are impossible (in an addictive way).

Riding 1:02:00 [3]

Bit of a spin, not too far and not too strenuous. Got shut down by the wind a few times. Had a little bit of a play in some single track.

Running 20:00 [3]

I think this week counts as an easy week. Been busy anyway. Went over the other side of the creek before breakkie.

Orienteering 1:54:34 [3] 9.7 km (11:49 / km)

First race at St Helens. Long and fairly lonely! Still kind of enjoyable though. Saw lots of people run through me, couldn't keep up with any. Went south to 1 onto the track on the ridge. Lost time on 7, crossed the creek further right than planned, then went right some more. Cut through some dark green in marsh on the way to 8. No major errors until the last one: tactic of run towards finish and look for tapes didn't really work. Still, better than navigating ;)

Orienteering 17:54 [3] 3.0 km (5:58 / km)

Had the right loop first, took until about 6 to actually start reading the map properly. Shins got a bit sore. Good fun race.

Running 30:00 [3]

Easy run at Ross. Considered running along the train line, good decision not to because trains actually run on it, one came through at the end of the run.

Note

Did the Hazards loop at Freycinet, almost got blown over on the dune behind the beach.

Orienteering 50:40 [3] 5.9 km (8:35 / km)

Pulled out my best run of the weekend after feeling like I was going to die, spew or both the night before :) Not sure what I can put the good run down to, except possibly the wearing of 'htfu' wristband. Legs were feeling better than the last few days, and hung on to the back of Anna from 8 until just before the finish. Navigation was pretty clean. Saw a snake.

Orienteering 1:35:22 [3] 9.2 km (10:22 / km)

Everyone loves an epic :) Lost a little time near the circle on 1 and 2, and more time on 5 & 7 (both on root mounds). Just realised I climbed a lot more then necessary out of the spectator control. Wasn't really running with anyone for any of it.

Saturday Apr 11, 2009 #

Orienteering 49:51 [3] 4.9 km (10:10 / km)

Slow and steady again, got a bit stuck in trees on the way to 4 around the hill.

Orienteering 18:21 [3]

Prologue; went ok, tore the unrippable map a bit, found all the controls ok, and in the right order. Legs didn't go any faster.

Running 38:00 [3] 7.0 km (5:26 / km)

So much better running with people :) Falling behind a little towards the end, but was saved by a nicely placed set of red traffic lights.

Run was one of the high points of the day, lows were a) idiot driving through red lights in front of me and b) other idiot lying down on the bike path when he saw me coming.

Baked potatoes were also a high point (and considerably more successful than my housemate's effort at same which involved a house full of smoke and broken microwave).

Orienteering 37:52 [3] 4.8 km (7:53 / km)

Really enjoyed the course :) Saw a bit of Aislinn out there until the spur gully at the end when she disappeared off in the distance. Made a few little wobbles on some controls. A bit off the pace but not too bad considering that other people train.

Orienteering 17:31 [3] 2.6 km (6:44 / km)

Got a bit lazy with navigation on the way to controls I'd already been to. Had people around for the first 8 controls then did the last bit by myself. Legs pretty tired. They don't like to go fast.

Loving the Southern Cross series. The pressure and seeing other people in the forest makes me put in more effort than I would have the dicipline to do otherwise.

Had to threaten to run for MFR to get a Bendigo keyring. Wasn't meant to get one because I don't have a car...??? Fairly certain I still have keys though.

Riding 1:30:00 [3]

Couldn't believe the number of cars on the road!!

Went down the Merri Crk and a few loops around the Yarra then back past the Children's Farm.

Hypocrite of the day: 'I think the cyclists need to learn to...' Didn't hear what she said, but I'm happy to learn when she learns how to walk on the left without taking up the whole bike path.
