Running 1:15:00 [3] 12.8 km (5:52 / km)

Woohoo. Actually went for a decent longer run :-) Started round Prinny, across to Royal Park (made sure to put in a bit of effort on the hills), and back to Prinny. Didn't feel like I was going that fast (esp from about 40-50mins), but seemed to pick up the pace after about 55 when the drizzle started. Clearly I just need to run in the rain more often ;-)
Nice bruise and lump on my leg from where I hit it yesterday but it wasn't sore running.
(distance is the Melways/dental floss one...ie not that accurate)

Orienteering (St George's Lake) 1:35:00 [3] 8.1 km (11:44 / km)

Really crap run. Navigation wasn't working, and legs could never get going, seemed to be having trouble just getting through the terrain. 4 and 5 looking too early, lots of trouble on 7-looking too low even once I realised where I was. The main controls I did ok on were the ones where the flag was hung high and I saw it from a distance. Skipped the loop off to the east and went straight from 10-14. Wasn't concentrating enough in the spur gully stuff, and while I didn't get lost, I lost time through never being 100% how high I was. Banged my shin before 22 so skipped 23.

Beautiful day for a ride. Went over to the Yarra and rode a bit along some tracks beside it...thus, spent a fair bit of time pushing bike over rocks. Nice ride though.

Warm up/down and between ints.

Running intervals (longer ints) 24:27 [4] 5.18 km (4:43 / km)

Did laps of Prinny with some longer surges:
1.5km - 7:06
2km - 9:23
1.68km - 7:58
Was feeling pretty good again and first 5x500m splits were all exactly 2:22.
Had about 500m recovery between (but had to stop for a stretch after 1st surge and recovery, felt better after).

Felt like crap, kept having to stop (after 18, 35, 48 mins) for stretches. Couldn't stop yawning for a really long time, about 20 mins...was awful, like ears were trying to pop or something...not cool. Legs felt like crap.

Running 10:00 [3]

Did the hill in Royal Park a few times...only half decent bit of the run. Did 90s, 60s, 60s, 30s, 30s and about 45s just at the end.

Around Prinny and over to Rathdowne St, back to Prinny and home. Front of shins feeling pretty tight after 10 mins. Is so much better running with someone though...some random was going to pass me on the way back going a bit faster than I was so I just sat on his tail...probably freaked him out. But I felt good and fast running then.

Didn't have any intention of going flat out, but don't think legs would have gone a lot faster anyway. Hardly got any distance compared to usual (about 100m off, but then, I can't estimate distance). Made it back with 17s spare.
Legs were a little sore.

Went along Yarra Blvd once and got sledged by an old guy on a MTB because he could keep up. Not cool. Then he disappeared. But I did pass someone on a road bike later. Legs were feeling ok, but a bit tired by the hr mark.

Orienteering race (Ngaralta) 1:09:02 [4] 7.8 km (8:51 / km)

Not too bad a run. Navigation was fine, took things pretty carefully which worked ok. Ran heaps with Bridget either just behind or in front after she caught 4mins. Was pretty lucky finding 11, wasn't really sure going in to it.

Depressing looking at Winsplits. Best was 2nd and all the others were 4th or worse. Even worse was the fact that my navigation was fine, but I just didn't have any legs to run and was 5 mins down on such a short course.

Orienteering race (ASC Galaxy) 17:19 [4] 2.8 km (6:11 / km)

Was speeding along at the start and died about where we left the school. Got a bit confused by the crossings, but navigation was fine.

Running 32:00 [1]

Went for a really easy run in Belair National park. Started off with Simon, Matt and Kellie, but left them pretty soon and went and did my own slow thing. Stopped every now and then to read the interpretive signs. Very educational run.
Hammy was fine...maybe it just needed a day off, or didn't like how I was trying to fix it.

Orienteering race (Worlds End Sth) 41:30 [4] 4.1 km (10:07 / km)

Best run of Easter but still a long way off the pace. At least navigation was fine. Hammy still sore.

Orienteering race 1:01:30 [4] 6.5 km (9:28 / km)

Went left too early to 1, ok then until 5 - came in a little too high, didn't see control so went higher, wasted a fair bit of time. Lost it from 7-8...heaps too far right at start from not checking compass, then was never really sure of position until fence. Ok in the finish. Hammy sore, and struggled a fair bit with the running.

Orienteering race 31:35 [4] 3.5 km (9:01 / km)

Going ok until 3, ran past control, then was a but uncertain on 4- the only controls in the mining. Should have made sure I stayed higher on 7, was a bit low on 10 and missed it in the green. Didn't like the uphill finish. Hammy sore :-(

Friday Apr 6, 2007 #

Orienteering race (Prologue) 18:31 [4] 2.6 km (7:07 / km)

Was going to the higher rocks to 2 for a bit before correcting, then ok until 8 where I looked on a spur too early- couldn't see it on the map because the line went over the contour. Lost a few seconds on 9 and 10...not the best run. Right hamstring was sore for some reason, noticed it near the start and was worse when I tried to go faster in the finish chute.

Had a big break to stretch before and after ints.

4x1min, 4x30s, 4x15s with = recovery

Legs feeling pretty crap. Oh well, hopefully that's my bad one for the next week and a bit. I'll give the legs a break until Friday.

Also ran the 4x400m relay.

Running race 2:51 [4] 0.8 km (3:34 / km)

My whole legs are so stiff.

Highlight of the day was victory by the Mary's girls in the 4x100m relay. Hurrah!

Riding 50:00 [3] 16.0 km (3:08 / km)

Pretty easy ride after the aths. Legs were pretty tired. Did 1st 10 mins easy, then 1min on and 2 or 3 off. Last 10 mins were pretty easy too.
Beautiful weather.
