Strength work and core for breakfast
4 PM

Running 43:01 [3] 8.16 km (5:16 / km)
shoes: Mizuno Paradox 5 2020

Common, Sports Centre, Cemetery, Greenways
Sunny and rainy all day. My hope is to be as to run 3-4 times per week, yoga Monday, core 3 times, strength work 2 times and a long ride. At times have had various pains (back and knee) and fatigue/tiredness. Obviously those numbers add up to more than 7 so have to do more than one in a day! Trying again today to do strength work and a run. Woke up early naturally so got the core and strength work done.
Fairly easy to get out for a run today, quite like this new loop linking up the Common and Sports Centre. Ran past a group of people doing heroin in a phone box (that and the trip to Sainsbury's at lunch made me feel like the area is rough! Usually think it's okay enough!) Stopped at the sports centre in the sun and watched this massive storm cloud and thunder come through. Fortunately only got rained on the last few hundred metres.

Green Greenways
Very damp and green! An out and back to the end with the allotments. Just wanted an easy half hour or so. Last night we walked this way and there were basically no puddles, so much wetter today. Pretty uneventful, there is now someones horse that lives in the Greenways. More people out than I expected with the weather.

Lower back hurt early last so thought I'd take it easy for a bit then get back on it

Test Valley cycle ride with Nicole
Up through Baddesley to Ampfield, then onto Braishfield and through to Kings Somborne. Over the Test to Broughton then down to Mottisfont and Romsey. Back all the way down Lee Lane.
My longest recorded ride. Neck/back and bum the worst part (need to try cycling in lenses to avoid raising my head to look forward!) Hopefully will get a bit more used to the sore bum with some more cycling! Think we won't go much longer in lockdown but would like to try and do a really long ride at some poiint (with cake stop)
A bit delayed due to digital orienteering so we were out in the middle of the day. Much nicer last weekend being out earlier with quieter roads.

Greenways link up - out via the Pond, up the hill, through the cemetery then onto a new path parallel to the dual carriageway then back round
Quite a good 40min loop with a lot of it away from the roads or on trail. Woke up feeling physically really tired (legs and body) but took it easy and felt good enough for a run later. Lovely sunny day and not too many people out and about.

Friday Forest Foray
Tried to plan the best hour route from home to the Forest. Out via Totton to Netley Marsh, looping through woodland's then past Dearleap and via Marchwood. Would've been better to not go round Marchwood as the traffic was worse (could've gone on cycle path) and the road surface wasn't amazing! Did get the opportunity to go via the infamous control site castle that caused contention at the Wessex Night League. A good loop and was moving quite well. Back (middle and shoulders) quite achey and tired after a short ride too.

Greenways, Sports Centre, Common - linking up some green areas
Quite a busy time of day, usually don't see any people on the narrow bit in the trees heading towards sports centre. The whole run felt a real struggle. Feet still a bit sore in these shoes. Legs and body felt knackered (had a bad back, quite low down yesterday) and in general felt pretty tired and worn out yesterday. Didn't get chance to do yoga due to work and then a bit of a stressful day. Got round the run but didn't feel amazing at any point.

Sunday lap of the Forest with Nicole
Thought we'd get out early after yesterday when it took all day for us to get going. Unfortunately had a puncture before we left which was a faff to fix. Then a small argument about route choice in Redbridge and then we were onto open roads in the Forest! Another great day to be out riding, no cars on the roads and sun out again. Headed towards Beauleiu before heading up to Lyndhurst, Acres down, Minstead and back. Learnt a couple of new roads which hopefully will link up in the future. I've down a number of rides in the high 40s but not sure if I've ever done a ride over 50km yet! Probably need to do that at some point. Bum and back the most achey again. Legs felt pretty good the whole way. Nicole got another puncture in Totton so we topped it up and limped back. Cycled on the dual carriageway which was a bit dodgey when the cars joined us from the bottom of the M271. Fortunately all okay!
May use the cycle to work to invest in some new kit: new shoes, new helmet, saddle bag, pump, more inner tubes!

Not been here for a while! Able to avoid the people quite easily but fairly busy. Took us a while to get out today, think we'll try to go early next weekend.

Loop from work - past Tesco's then cut onto the path before the motorway, Test way to lower Test then back over the motorway junction
Had to go into work to sort some things (copying off flown imagery). Worked a long day, was about to finish when they emailed saying the disks had arrived. Almost didn't go out but decided I would. Remembered the bonus path before the motorway which was pretty good and means there is more trail on this loop (not the Lee church variation). Really enjoy getting down to the lower Test, so many birds singing. Took a couple of minutes to savour it and do some mindfulness. Then back over the motorway. Could feel my knee a little bit towards the end but not painful. Also focused on my breathing and core a couple of times.

Lordswood loop with Nicole, out and back on the Greenways taking in a couple of the better trails and runnable woodland
Another leisurely start today then the familiar trails of the Greenways. Still a good way to get into some quiet nature though a bit busier in the middle of the day. Legs felt terrible, really tired and didn't feel like they could run very well.
Went up my diagonal path from the brook, the forest road hill and then through the runnable pine forest. Need to fully work out the route to loop back to the Greenways as the way we went was okay but maybe not quite right? Then a jog back solo while Nicole did more. My right knee started hurting a bit and I had to walk up the hill and home. Bit annoying, then a chilled rest of the day in the garden.

Cycling 2:08:30 [3] 48.62 km (2:39 / km)

Long bike ride Nicole, out to the Forest through Totton. To Cadnam, Bramshaw, Wellow, Romsey, Green Lane, Baddesley and Rownhams.
Sunny Easter weekend ride. Enjoyed getting out on the bike recently. Hopefully there'll be less cards on the road post lock down! Quite hot going out in the middle of the day! A couple of stops to check on a Forest dweller and some others in Romsey. Then onwards, maybe should've drunk a little bit more or gone out earlier! Felt pretty good, figured out a solution to the gears rubbing a bit (two stage flappy paddle or something). By the end my bum and shoulders were really tight and sore. Would be my longest ride on distance (but my watch died and the last bit wasn't recorded on Strava, distance on here stolen). Shame there were no ice cream or cafe stops! Felt a bit tired after and definitely tired on the Sunday run.

Mr Men hunting in Southampton
A local artist has put mosaics up around the town of Mr Men (and cartoons/super heroes). We'd seen a few of them out and about around town so spent the evening plotted the locations and planning a route. 3 of them were the other side of the Itchen and would've made the run about 30km! Most of them were in Shirley or on the way into town so pretty easy to link up. Some of the are quite funny e.g. Mr Rush where people sit in a traffic jam each day or Mr Greedy right by McDonalds. Fun to link them up. A couple were tricky to find especially Mr Impossible!

Toothill (two ascents) to work
Enjoyed Sunday's ride and had to pick up a docking station from work. Thought they would combine well for an evening plan. Decided to do Partridge lane as well (steeper than the main drag). Legs definitely working on the two steep sections (didn't stand up). Nice to be out in the sun on quiet roads again. The extra weight and wind from work to home felt a struggle at the end.

Another glorious morning on the Greenways
Woke up before the alarm for the first time since the clocks changed and felt good so thought I'd see if it was nice before running or doing strength work. It looked nice! Colder than I expected and probably could have done with a long sleeve top. Nice to be out and it was pretty quiet again

Toothill from home
My legs and joints were a bit achey but thought it may be nicer to get out for a ride instead of a run. Chilled during the day in the garden and then debated going out. It was really nice weather and so thought I'd go for a little spin around and could also get back at work and just do a flat loop. Turns out the roads were very quiet and it was probably the best cycling conditions I've ever seen. Stupidly wore my thick jacket and stopped below Toothill to take it off. Definitely didn't need it, need to remember I'd prefer to be a little cold. Felt a bit tired on the steep section of hill, otherwise a very enjoyable ride. Annoyingly only had to put my foot down on the bonus lap of the block at the end to get the distance up. Really enjoyed it and thought I could get into cycling more if it was always like that!

To the Sports Centre and a lap with Nicole
A leisurely start then off for a run. Decided against doing week 2 of the Shirley Ponds parkrun, when I got there it wasn't actually too busy. So maybe the dog walkers had returned home by 10 ish! Up the Greenways then onto the Sports Centre, did the left hand side the normal lap and then out behind the ski slope. Got a bit confused in a few areas near the ski slope as I usually do this run in the other direction. The cut out from the top to near the avenue is pretty decent and nice woods. Then to Uptons to see if they had any eggs. Had to stay 2m from the counter and we were presented with a card machine on a stick then a bag on a stick! Jog home carrying a dozen eggs, fear of dropping and made my arms ache a bit...

Linking up some green areas from the front door
Down towards the school and allotments, into Millbrook and then skirted all the green areas through the middle. Then out past the old OS to the Greenways and back home.
A few rough locals in places but otherwise an okay loop from home. As much as running in terrain will get in the coming weeks - some long grass! Calves have been really tight from the silly stair session on Sunday! Feeling better now (writing this on Saturday) but still a little tight.
