US nationals relay
I ran leg 2 for BTW, with Ben (leg 1) and Will (leg 3). My VJ’s give me horrible blisters. It’s been a problem before, but it’s gotten worse. These are probably the worst blisters I’ve ever had. Time to get new orienteering shoes.

US champs long at Sage Hen
Slow but mostly steady for the first half. Lots of hesitations and double checking that I was where I thought I was, but I hit everything pretty much right on. And then 7. It was probably a 7+ minute mistake that I just could not successfully relocate from. Finally figured out where I was on the ride with the ditches north of the control and saw Tori, who had started 8 minutes behind me. Then had mistakes on 8 and 9, where I was too low on 8 and Tori, some other guy, and I were not far enough around the hill on 9. Hustled in to the finish from there, which was a nice side effect of being caught! :)

US Champs middle at Little Truckee Summit
Smoke ugh. Ran in my mask - started with two but headed to 3 I had to take one mask off. Hard to breathe with the mask(s), but probably slightly easier than the smoke. Walked most of the hills. Throat and head aren’t feeling great.
Not a great race by any means. One big mistake on 6. I need to look at my gps track, but I thought I was just south of the green along the ride, but somehow from there ended up in the rocks well above 6. Had lots of hesitation in trying to relocate. Another pretty good mistake on 13. I think I got distracted once I got into the rocks and then overshot the control.

US Nationals sprint at Sierra College in Sacramento, CA
The last sprint race I did was at Vancouver Sprint Camp in 2020, right at the early days of COVID, so this was really fun to move quickly again! I questioned some of my route choices and had some hesitation because of that, but otherwise an OK race. R hip flexor is bothering me pretty good. I felt it after each of my two 50k's, and I'm sure running faster than I have in a while aggravated it. Icing tonight.
