Woke up 6:15a, packed up and got going at 7:15a. We took our time the whole way. Left the trail to head up the Cascadian Couloir at 8:10a. Made it to the summit at 11:45a with several brief stops along the way, it was a long slog up, with a long scramble portion, but it was a solid hike. Views weren’t great because it was cloudy to the north and west, so we couldn’t see much past Cashmere. To the south, Rainier was poking out above the clouds.

May creek trail. Planned for 2x 13 minute tempos, but my L hamstring was feeling thingy and I wasn’t able to put in the amount of work that I wanted to get out of it. So, I cut it down to 2x 10 minutes. Mom rode the mtn bike with me. It’s a good workout for us to do together like this; we’re close to the same overall pace.
Shoes felt fine, no complaints on that front. They’re definitely more of a road shoe though, and I’m intending to use them for the speedy road or track stuff. I just wanted to break them in a bit.

Hiking 1:00:00 [1] 2.8 mi (21:26 / mi)

My Stuart this weekend. Stuart is the 2nd highest non-volcanic peak in WA, making it the 6th highest overall, behind Bonanza but ahead of St Helens. Traffic was awful heading over the pass. Left home around 6pm and made it to the trailhead around 9p. We decided to head up at least to Long’s pass for the night. Hiking in the dark was an experience to say the least. Not bad, but I did miss having the views, and a stronger headlamp would have come in handy.
Stars were beautiful. The moon wasn’t very big, and the Milky Way was faintly visible. There also must have been a meteor shower going on, since I saw quite a few.
It was super windy on top of the pass though, which meant waking up several times throughout the night with the tent blowing in.

New shoes! Unfortunately I didn’t get the ball rolling earlier, so I had to squeeze this in after my nap and before dinner. I’m sore from yesterday, especially left hamstring

Running race 5:35 [5] 1.0 mi (5:35 / mi)

Club NW All-Comers mile. Tried to pace for a 5:40, went out much too fast (whoops) but didn’t make too big of a fool out of myself. First woman! I’m honestly surprised I was able to hit this time (fastest for me since 2016 I think) since with work and classes I really have not been a) training, or b) sleeping for the past few weeks. Excited that this indicates that I’m not moving backwards despite all that though!

Running warm up/down 4:05 [2] 0.36 mi (11:21 / mi)

Barefoot post-mile, pre-4x400m

Running race 1:13 [4] 0.4 km (3:02 / km)

Got recruited by some gals (Rachel and Kayla) at the start of the mile to join their 4x400m team! We were unopposed but it was still a blast. I wasn’t extremely drained, so definitely could have gone faster. I didn’t time myself, but here’s an estimate. The team time was approx. 4:52.
