I'm pretty positive I broke my L big toe in my broomball game by slamming into the wall. Initially I thought it was just a jam and that my toenail would probably fall off, but now I can't bend my toe or put pressure on it without pain. The plan for this weekend was to take a break from studying and packing with a couple of easy long runs, but I don't think that's in the works anymore. I'm bummed.

Super fun training course on Tiger designed by Peteris! It was great to get back out on a map! We had a good-sized crew, which was awesome. Given that this was a true course in a PNW forest, it was mostly downhill. Lots of ferns and hidden logs in the underbrush, but a manageable amount of blackberries and devils club.

Snowy hike up Humpback. Sean and I were following other people's tracks the entire time, which was great since we didn't have to break trail, especially up near the top where there was a good foot of snow. When we finally caught up to the other party at the top, we found my neighbors! We laughed at the coincidence and took some celebratory photos together.

Hiking 48:47 [1] 1.98 mi (24:38 / mi)

Much speedier descent, glissading and running down the snowy slopes.

Running race 1:38:54 [4] 12.87 mi (7:41 / mi)
slept:7.5 shoes: Asics Gel-Excite 4 - Blue (#2)

Second half marathon! (A little short). Shower and nap first, then a description.
Showered and curled up in bed! I wasn't expecting much from this race given that I've only gotten in a handful of long runs this season, and overall my mileage has been pretty low. However, I ended up with a ~8 minute PR (which totally still would have been a PR if the course was a full 13.1!) even on a much hillier course than the race that I ran last year.
They had to change the course today to adjust for flooding on the bike path we were supposed to use and a bursted water main. The original course was flat for the first few miles, then rolling up until about mile 7, then rolling down and flat again towards the end. So, once we hit a large downhill after mile 8 and having already done a lot of rolling uphills, Bex looked at me and remarked that we were on track for PRs, and I responded that I thought the rest of the course was relatively flat. Not more than 10 seconds later, we come around a corner to see a MASSIVE hill. This hill was essentially the equivalent of all the other climbs we had done previously, combined. I died pretty hard and was probably going slower than walking pace up it. Bex powered through the whole thing, which meant that I didn't have a running partner for the remaining miles. I was really struggling towards the end, but overall I did a fairly good job of keeping my pace up.
My body feels a lot better after this half than it did after the one last year, which is a good sign. I'm very happy with how this went. It was a good last race with the club running team here :)

Fishtailing in the snow on a bike was a new experience. This was fantastic fun for the first 5 minutes, and I was chuckling to myself as I slid and slipped along. Then there was enough snow in my eyes that I couldn't see well and I became more worried about the passing cars, so the last 5 minutes were decidedly less fun.

Lymph nodes are swollen behind one ear. Interestingly, this isn't unusual for me, although this is the first time I realized the swelling was my lymph nodes, and I'm not sure if it's been correlated with illness in the past. But I'm guessing it likely is associated with getting sick, so I'm hoping I can fight off whatever is coming my way by getting quality sleep. I haven't been sleeping well for the past two weeks, so I'm ready for it.

Long run along the river with the gals. We ended up doing somewhat of a tempo progression, which was nice since we started off so slowly, shaking out from yesterday. Half marathon next Saturday! I'm not ready to race it, but it will be a good fast-ish long run I think.

NIRCA nationals. Our whole team was racing in the junior/senior race since we didn't actually qualify.
It was cold! In the high 20's/low 30's, which was cold, but manageable, and notably warmer than last year. I raced in gloves and ended up taking them off about 3/4 of the way through, but I'm glad I started with them. This was a really fun course to race on as well, with a couple of rolling hills but nothing major, and a very simple loop x2 design. I had an ok race, but I felt as if I wasn't pushing as hard as I could, but mentally I just couldn't get myself there today. Although my HR monitor might disagree with that assessment. Fun race, and fun trip with the team.

Exploring the trails and the foothills behind U of Utah. There's a nice linear trail that I ran along, but all of the trails going up in the hills are very very steep and just go straight up, so the uphill and downhill parts evolved into hiking.
