Running 1:00:00 [3] 7.0 mi (8:34 / mi)

Beautiful but cold run with the distance team on Cougar Mountain. It was wonderful to see all the snow still on the ground, especially up where we started. Carlyn and I ran to Second Bench.

Orienteering 45:00 [3] 2.4 km (18:45 / km)
17c

I took my dad and two friends out to the Beaver Lake permanent course. We ran through the two courses and had fun. It was a good introduction to orienteering for them, and they might go to the next meet, but I'm not sure if I got much more out of it than a relaxed jog. Still, it was nice to get outside and moving.

Of course, my dad dropped and lost the keys somewhere, so while we waited for my mom to bring us new car keys and while my dad was out retracing our steps, we huddled in the bathroom with our hands under the hand drier. Brrrr!

Running 40:00 [3] 4.6 mi (8:42 / mi)

Easy DQ run with the distance team.

Soccer 1:30:00 [3]

Normal soccer practice. Considered doing two full-field sprints and then 5 minutes of core work, but continued with the four sprints instead.

Running 1:00:00 [3] 7.0 mi (8:34 / mi)

Pleasant run on Cougar Mountain to "Second Bench" with the distance team. It's so nice to start running again! I'm ready to start running more often - maybe three times a week.

Rollerskiing 35:00 [3]

Rollerskiing around the surrounding neighborhoods with my dad. It's getting me excited for some XC skiing in the winter!

Soccer 1:30:00 [3]

Soccer practice. We mainly did a passing/shooting drill, but after practice was over I did the 4 sprints across the length of the field. The first two a teammate did with me, but the last two were alone.

Soccer 1:30:00 [3]

First soccer practice after the fall break, and it was lots of fun to see everyone again and play again! Aurora and Cameron and I did our 4 sprints across the length of the field after practice in order to get in sprinting shape for the season.

Orienteering race 1:08:36 [4] 5.4 km (12:42 / km) +80m 11:50 / km
14c

I ran the long advanced course after the varsity course, and it was definitely good practice. I made some mistakes because my brain wasn't all there and I ran much slower because I was tired from the first race, but it will help me focus for longer and build up more endurance.

Orienteering race 31:43 [5] 4.3 km (7:23 / km) +80m 6:45 / km
13c

The second WIOL meet of the year, but my first one! It was at Dash Point and was all trails, which was to my advantage. Overall I had a fun time and it was awesome to be able to get out there and compete! I really didn't make any mistakes on the course, I was running quickly, and I finished 1st. Fun day!

Rollerskiing 30:00 [3]

I really wanted to get out and go on a bike ride, but my parents said it was too late and too dark, so my dad and I went rollerskiing around the neighborhood instead. I fell once or twice, but it felt so good to get back outside doing something active after my week off from XC state!

Running race 19:33 [5] 5.0 km (3:55 / km)

The XC State meet over in Pasco went really well! Guys and girls teams each placed 3rd, I placed 16th, and I had a PR by 17 seconds.

I was leading Carlyn and myself through the 1 mile mark (6:08), at which point saw Sarah not too far ahead, so decided to catch up with her. I ran right next to or right behind her for the rest of the race (although I was unsure if I would be able to maintain her pace for the whole race), and Carlyn was never far behind. Our 2 mile split was about 12:30. Carlyn caught up with us around the 3 mile mark, and it was really awesome to be able to run with the two of them in a pack for the last part of the State meet! The race came down to the sprint for the finish, where another girl tried to pass us, but I was able to outsprint her.

We ran 1.5 miles for warm up before the race, and after the race we did a short cool down, only 3/4 mile.

Running 30:00 [3] 5.0 km (6:00 / km)

We drove over to Pasco early in order to do a course run-through. We ran the course slowly as a team just to get a feel for it, and we did two stride/buildup things over the top of the first hill at the start to prepare for the start of Saturday's race.

Running 40:00 [3] 5.0 mi (8:00 / mi)

Easy long run with the XC team.

Wednesday Nov 5, 2014 #

Running intervals 50:00 [4] 6.0 mi (8:20 / mi)

XC team interval workout. Two 600m intervals with a slight uphill at the start, then three flat 400m intervals.

Running 50:00 [3] 6.0 mi (8:20 / mi)

Long run with the XC team.

Monday Nov 3, 2014 #

Running intervals 50:00 [4] 6.0 mi (8:20 / mi)

Interval workout on the track after about a 1.5 mile warm up. We ran two 800m at about 2:00 each with a lap around the field in between. After the second 800m, we ran around the field twice, then did a set of four 400m with 200m rest in between. The 400's were at 85-86 seconds. Ran about another 1.5 miles for a cool down.

Armchair Orienteering 30:00 [0]

Armchair Orienteering! I went over my dad's and my sister's courses from the Saturday meet at Lincoln Park with them, saw what they did, thought about what I would have done, and saw what some other people did on RouteGadget.

Running race 19:50 [5] 5.0 km (3:58 / km)

We had another successful meet at districts. The team won by 62 points. I had a good race and missed my PR by just .24 seconds. It was somewhat of a hilly course, with three short, steep hills.

I decided to run with Carlyn; she goes out at a faster pace than I normally do. We pushed each other and stayed right together for the first half (I followed her up the hills), but then I pulled ahead a little bit. No one was right with me for the first part of the last mile, and I slowed down because of it. I knew the group behind me was gaining on me, so I decided to go with the first person who passed me. I did, and was able to quickly pass her back.

Our warm up was 2 miles, and our cool down was another 2 miles. However, watching the boys' race meant running another mile, and it was more of a sprint than an addition to the cool down!
