ResultsWas one of the first starts so I hoped that this would make my goals of having a technically stable race and not being distracted by others a bit easier.
Started well through the first 2 on the vague, bushy slopes, holding my bearings well and looking up to spot the control when I got near. Nailed the route to #3, taking the path up the hill so I could run at a higher speed then was cautious on the entry of the control, so nailed it.
4, 5 were on a very steep slope so just not falling was a bit of an issue but got through them fine just didn't feel very fast along the slope. Took a bit of a weird route to 6, just thought I should stay out of the green and had a little miss on the entry of the control but only a few seconds.
Stayed high on the slope to 7 but was too high, realised before I overshot and jumped down through some green onto it. Slogging up the hill to 8 but stupidly not taking the time to plan #9 which would have been a much better use of time.
Went down then up along the road just because I didn't realise how much I would drop then have to gain again, should have gone up in hindsight. Also missed the control when I entered it, I was coming off the end of a path but don't think I was on the one that was one the map so ended up too high ~30s binned.
10, 11 took slowly through the steep green and kept it clean. Then came the long 2.1km leg to #12.
Hadn't planned it so stopped and walked out of the control up the hill before realising that I had to go pretty much straight so would try and stick to paths around the line as much as I could. Didn't get the optimal, should have headed down the east hand side of the valley to begin with instead of crossing over part way down; Jack wood gained time on me here since we were running togther. Pushed up the hill, chasing Jack which definitely helped and don't think I would have pushed as hard without him there. Finding the control was the easy part.
Final long leg to #14 I took a weird route since the entry onto the control was nice off the fence corner bellow the green stuff. Although I should have gone straighter since there was a path most the way into the control.
Slowed down through the final section, making sure to stick on the compass and just ticking off the features because it was the most technical bit of woods.
Overall a good technical performance just need to plan the long legs in advance next time so I don't have to walk out of the controls. Couldn't push as hard as I'd of liked physically, legs tired from being a bit of a moron this week, will take it easier next week.
