Wessex Night Leage, Winchester urban score.

8th/41.

Started slow and was generally too slow as I struggled to juggle map reading at night and not tripping up/navigating. As visible from the HR recordings I was not running near my limit at all.

Planning was also substandard (although not catastrophic), however as luck would have it running anti-clockwise would have been better as it would have given me more visibility of which gates were open/closed. It would have given me a shorter route AND I would have avoided a mistake where I ran past a closed gate that was marked open on the map - coming out the other way would have spared me 2min+. RHF ran less distance than I did and got all controls...

I was also early back by over 2 mins, so definitely could have/should have collected all controls - as is I have dropped 3 of them.

Either way would have been too slow, comparing last weeks night urban races I covered 2km less this time...!

Not sure what the take away is though, probably just need more night practice to be more confident in combining running speed whilst map reading when the lighting conditions are challenging (i.e. limited peripheral vision due to blinding effects of headlamp reflecting off the map).

Running warm up/down 9:37 intensity: (4 @1) + (6 @2) + (6:57 @3) + (2:30 @4) 1.71 km (5:37 / km) +1m 5:35 / km
