running 39:51 [3] 8.89 km (4:29 / km)

Ran from my house through the trails, which were very muddy at times. Decided I'd where shorts today (probably still couldn't have waited on this), legs seized up in the beginning but I slowly picked up the pace through out the run until the last two kilometers where I was running a bit slower then a cross country race pace. GPS watch wouldn't load to garmin connect but probably around 100m of climb.

running warm up/down 10:00 [1]

Slow jog on the roads to cool down, and don't feel like running hard on pavement if I don't have to.

Warm up and cool down

orienteering - General race 46:00 [4]

Great course and forest today. The first leg 6 legs went well, the first was fairly sloppy and I also lost some time on the 6th control where I cut over to what I thought was a trail but turned out to be some clear cut line, when I left the trail I just didn't pay enough attention to the final details of the leg. Then lost a minute crossing into the box since I forgot about the mandatory crossing points. The box went fairly well other then a few times where I just wasn't focused enough as I was running and also lost some intensity. Final 7 controls I picked the intensity up significantly as I had to chance a few others, so I was orienteering at a pace I wasn't reading all the details and a bit sloppy because of that. Especially in more complex terrain like this I need to look for big features I can use at the beginning of a leg and narrow in my focus as the leg goes on. Altogether fun race

orienteering - General 5:00 [2]

After my cool down I just ran the last few legs again at a slower pace

SMT this morning with Trav, Hadron, and almaggedon. Ran hard on the hills and some relatively flat sections picked up the pace too. Similar distance to what Hadron logs, sadly not my finest attempt at k2..

running intervals 30:00 [4]

6 pump house loops and then running back up to the parking lot. Something I struggle with is pushing to my limit when I'm running in races, since I don't have a background in sports like a lot of others. For example I don't think I've ever gotten close to my limit in a sprint or even some cross country races. So I'd like to make this my goal to become far better at pushing myself in races for this summer. I'm thinking when track starts off I'll go for the 1500m because you are more or less sprinting it and I imagine it will be easier to get sucked into a more comfortable pace in the 3000m.

cycling 58:09 [2] 17.02 km (17.6 kph)

Ended up deciding to go mountain biking today. The trails were muddy as you would expect, but turns out there was still a lot of thick sheets of ice covering the trails. Ended up bailing to the rail trail which had a minimal amount of ice until the trail center and then have of the time I was on ice. After learning that biking on ice does not end well, I stayed on the edge/ditch/forest of the trail. Anywhere it was possible to bike fast, I would go hard but that was limited. Also turns out I have to fix my bike as the chain would keep popping/slipping as soon as I encountered a muddy hill or anything that requires more force.

orienteering - General 1:15:00 [2]

Blainey and Emil were going over to the site for raid the rib to plan the course so I went along and ran on one of the maps. The map is only half completed so doesn't have any vegetation and a whole bunch of edits to the map in green all over it. That all created a bit more confusion as I was running. The forest was really nice and open at times but the area around the scout camp's undergrowth was pretty thick. With the map being confusing to read I tended to wait at the control to come up with a complete plan before I left.

running 1:18:53 [2] 13.14 km (6:00 / km) +125m 5:44 / km

Ran from my house through the muddy/icy trails over to the location a few weeks ago we did the bearings. Drew five legs on the map in the forest and did them. Continued on occasionally doing some forest running along the way.

orienteering - General race 20:00 [4]

X-league, tonight probably had two minutes of stupid mistakes in here. I started running to the 2nd control of a dog bone from the start and but luckily figured out quickly and had to run back to get the first

orienteering - General race 19:00 [2]

2nd half of x-league, spent 12 minutes of it searching for 10b, turns out it was 10m of the right to the tree I had thought it was on. After that wasn't to motivated to run hard the rest of the controls so just got a few of the ones near me and headed back late.

About 32 minutes of it was forest or small icy trails, rest was road or my cool down at the end since I'd finished running a hill hard

orienteering - General 1:10:00 [3]

Running a course Meghan made. Focused on picking out the features I needed to use before seeing and visualizing them. Also anytime I felt I was losing focus I would start saying my route/plan outloud. I had one real mistake where I ran right over top the control spot and stopped further along the hill, and spent a fair bit of time trying to find logs crossing the river but I was happy for the first since I can remember I actually did a pretty good job staying solely focused on orienteering.

orienteering - General 22:00 [3]

Lost over a minute on control 2 because I went to the control description, despite being warned the flags were just in the circle (I did take a poor route choice considering the side of wall it was suppose to be on though. Other then that I ran hard for parts but I had to slow down a lot for the turns, and towards the end I got sloppy (slight hesitations and not planning a head well enough). I ended up not punching the last control despite running right by it because on the next leg I had just noticed a fake barrier and had to come up with another route to the finish, and ran that way instead. Other then that good start to the training, good job reading control descriptions but could have been smoother.
